My child said her mouth hurts, when I took a look I saw this, any ideas what it is?

The roof of her mouth?

hanginginhere · 21/09/2023 19:01

Yes in front of her teeth, you'll need to click on the photo to see the whole picture.

I meant behind her teeth.

Do you mean behind her teeth?

SpringHexagon · 21/09/2023 19:03

Previous poster, very unhelpful. If you don't know then why bother commenting.

OP, I have no experience with it or know if this is what your child has, but hand, foot and mouth disease is doing the rounds just now.

dementedpixie · 21/09/2023 19:04

An ulcer?

MariePaperRoses · 21/09/2023 19:05

Is it a mouth ulcer like when you eat a too hot potato?

As an aside, that is the cleanest child's nose I've ever seen!

bettynutkins · 21/09/2023 19:06

Could it be a tooth? I had an extra tooth come through when I was around 6/7 in that area.

SparklyShoesandTutus · 21/09/2023 19:06

Looks like a blister has she eaten something hot or bitten something sharp?

SummerDayz63 · 21/09/2023 19:08

Looks like a blister, do they have any spots / blisters / sore spots on hands or feet?

StrandedStarfish · 21/09/2023 19:08

I think they may be Epstein Pearls. These are harmless keratin deposits. If I’m correct they will spontaneously resolve.

please see your GP if worried

filka · 21/09/2023 19:10

Maybe a mouth ulcer? Use Bongela

hanginginhere · 21/09/2023 19:11

It's been there a couple of weeks, I noticed it when she was asleep with her mouth open but she's just today said it hurts.

Dentist here!
It looks like a small blocked salivary gland, get her to massage it very gently it should help it go down.
it’s possible it’s an ulcer, but doesn’t look quite right for that.
Could a tooth growing through in a slightly funny place, but again doesn’t look quite right for that either, although hard to be sure from a photo.
Is she about 7?
Give it a few days if it’s not gone obviously see a dentist

hanginginhere · 21/09/2023 19:12

I thought it could be a tooth but it's hard but not hard enough for a tooth.

OP posts:
hanginginhere · 21/09/2023 19:14

She's 5

coxesorangepippin · 21/09/2023 19:15

Looks like an ulcer

Littlemissprosecco · 21/09/2023 19:18

has she lost her top front baby teeth yet? It’s hard to tell from the photo

hanginginhere · 21/09/2023 19:19

No, she hasn't lost any teeth yet.

junbean · 21/09/2023 19:20

Eating too much salt or sugar will do this too. My child gets mouth ulcers when she overdoes it with junk food.

NewName122 · 21/09/2023 19:20

My son gets this and I showed his consultant who said it looks fine to him. My son said it didn't feel fine. It's come and gone about 4 times now.

Henryhover · 21/09/2023 19:22

Looks like a tooth! My brother has this and as long as it's not bothering him they left it

Littlemissprosecco · 21/09/2023 19:23

My best guess is a blocked salivary gland, mucocele, but it’s hard to tell from the photo. The pain is likely that it’s stretching the mucosa and getting a bit rubbed. Get it checked if it doesn’t go

Littlemissprosecco · 21/09/2023 19:26

She may surprise you and grow a tiny extra tooth!

MmmALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 21/09/2023 19:27

I get them sometimes! It's like an annoying, hot, blister full of pressure but never bursts. I do tend to find myself sucking on it and bothering it until it's gone. Can't remember how long they last but I don't think it's too long.
