18 month old fell out of bed

Was sleeping with me in my bed and I woke up to a thump. Bed is a normal bed height, not low.

I got him up and played with him for a while. He didn't cry for very long. I kept him up for 30 minutes - an hour and then he drank his milk and is now sleeping.

I can't find any bumps on his head or face.. anything else I should do ?

If there are no obvious signs of injury, just keep an eye for the next couple of days for signs of concussion. I don't think there's a parent whose child hasn't fallen off a bed- mine fell off ours at around 9 months. Horrifying at the time but children are basically made of rubber!

If your baby fell off a bed, couch, changing table or other elevated surface, look for signs like vomiting, extra fussiness and lethargy. 2048

My kid fell out of bed a few times once I put him in a big bed without barriers. He never really woke up. I just put a few pillows alongside the bed until he learnt where the edges were.

As for checking them out, if they landed on carpet, aren’t lethargic or restless or vomiting, I really wouldn’t give it another thought.

My daughter managed to climb out of the cot very early on. One evening there was aged almighty thunk from her room, and a determined toddler making for the door with a huge carpet mark on her forehead, complete with the pattern of the cut pile carpet. No tears, but still frightened the life out of me. To save more accidents like this, we took the bars off off her cot bed. But as I was worried about her falling out, or climbing any sort of barrier, we put giant floor cushions alongside the bed to break any falls. One evening, when I went to check on her, she had disappeared...cue panic until we looked under the bed, to find she had rolled out of bed then rolled off the cushions too. Somehow managed to extricate her and pop her back in bed without waking her. There were several other accidents ; the one with a huge bump on her forehead with a dent in it where she'd bashed her head on the corner of something was a bit of a frightener, but somehow or other she's made it to her 40s with no ill effect!
Keep an eye on your baby, but try not to panic. You can't wrap them in cotton wool, brace yourself, there are going to be plenty of accidents to come!
