Why am I always so tired ??

Hi!

im waiting to go to the gp next week, just thought I’d post and ask here in the meantime. In the last few months I’ve been so tired, it’s just got worse and I’ve sort of lost perspective of what’s normal and what’s normal and what’s not.

does anyone else have to take naps? As in, not prefers to take naps, but feels like they physically have to?

I usually go to bed at 10 and read/wind down until 11 ish. I wake up at 7 for work. If I get less sleep than this then I’m too exhausted and have to nap everyday. Im exhausted anyway even with this sleep but I can just about get by, but after a few days the exhaustion gets too much and I physically cannot stay awake anymore. Like tonight I came home and was so exhausted and had to go to sleep at 7 and I’ve just woke up now. I didn’t just want a nap, I honestly felt horrendous because I hadn’t napped for a few days. I’m up slightly later tonight (later start tomorrow) but realistically I could go back to sleep right now and I’d sleep for another 12+ hours. I’m still so so tired.

I’ve got big dark rings round my eyes, im so pale and just generally feel a bit crap recently. My diet is good and my lifestyle isn’t particularly busy, just very normal. I just feel so tired all the time no matter how little/much I sleep. I’ve lost some weight but I think it’s more because I’m skipping some meals because I’m napping and sleeping so much now. ive fainted aswell but I think that’s more because I’m tired and skipped a few meals and it all come down to how tired I am

can anyone offer any advice or knowledge of wtf this could be? I’m 25 and feel like I’ve tired 90 overnight!

At your age, all of these need to be looked at...

Iron levels

Thyroid levels

Magnesium deficiency (which is very, very common)

Impact of hormonal birth control

Vitamin D levels

B12 levels

A combination of the above

Not normal at your age- I feel like this sometimes but I'm in my fifties and getting over covid,
Glad you have an appointment with GP for some tests. My DS in his teens a few years ago went a bit like this and he had very low iron - went on supplements and picked up no end. Do you eat well?- you say you 'skip meals' get the right vitamins in you and eat properly- it makes a massive difference.
When you are low on vitamins and minerals it can really screw you up- if you can't face eating the food then take supplements but really- sort your diet out- hope things improve and you get some help at GP's.

I’m early 40’s now but have been like this since your age. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition in my early 30s which - I suspect - is the reason. I go through phases but sometimes I can sleep for 18 hours and still be tired. Others I am more ‘normal’.
I work part time as I know I’d be too tired to work full time as well as parent.
You do need to see a dr and they’ll do some blood tests to rule out the usual suspects - you do sound like you may be anaemic. Do you have heavy periods?

Thanks for the advice, yeah I did wonder about anaemia or maybe more iron (not sure if that’s the same thing or not!)

I actually don’t have heavy periods at all (very light, usually last 3-4 days but even when they do last up to 7 they’re not heavy at all) I’ve never actually taken any birth control or had the coil or implant etc because my periods have always been light x

Sleep Apnoea
Narcolepsy
Both worth looking at. Google the Epworth Sleepiness Scale.
I have narcolepsy, it often kicks in late teens/twenties

I'm very similar, wake up perfectly refreshed but have to nap at lunchtime. I am deficient on pretty much everything despite a very healthy and plentiful diet and quality vitamins. I'm obviously not absorbing properly and waiting for my gp to take it seriously rather than blaming menopause.

You sound ill really. Hopefully just a deficiency that can be fixed.

I'm slightly older but a couple of years ago was sleeping up to 19 hours per day. I had full bloods done and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, vitamin D deficiency and very low folic acid. I now take metformin and have changed my diet, plus take a multi vitamin and vitD supplements.

If I stop taking them I start sleeping all day again. So I'm not sure which of those make me so tired, potentially all of them.
