GCSE re-mark….

My son’s school do early entry GCSEs in year 10. I’ve had an email from his RE teacher saying they think his paper would benefit from a re-mark. It’s £40 though and has to be paid by the 25th! He was 3 marks off a 6. Not sure what to do….has anyone had experience of this and did the mark change?

The school used that wording which is why I did.

Loads of changes in English this year because the marking has been so shoddy. As long as they have looked at the papers and have identified why then yea definitely do it. If only one paper had the problem then don't sent both back as marks can also go down so if one has been generously marked it could go down! They need to be clear that they have looked at the paper.

We've been contacted for an English Language remark but it's free so why not?

We did it because ds was 1 mark off an A. We got the remark back very quickly but there was no change in score at all. This was also for Religion GCSE.

We had this for my dd's maths paper.

@MrsJBaptiste it's not free! £40-50 per paper depending on exam board.
If schools are questioning large numbers of papers for a particular exam it works differently.

Free for us although granted, the school must be paying. As they are, we'll have the paper remarked although I'm not expecting a higher grade - would be great for DS if it went up though!

Please remember grades can also go down.

Dd had one of hers remarked. We knew nothing about it as the school just sent it off. School phoned a few months later to say it had been changed from 7 to 8. Think it was only 2 or 3 marks difference.

A school is not allowed to apply for review of marking without the student signing to give permission, even if the school is paying. There is a risk of a grade going down.

Always worth it I think. The inconsistent marking of written subjects is an actual scandal. The more people you get to look at a paper the better chance you have of getting something close to an accurate mark.

Just got DDs re-mark back - up 2 marks and so 1 grade (only needed 1 mark).
