like a packed lucnh meal?

dd1+2 get a hot meal for school lunches and eat resonably well.

every evening last week and this week, they havent been wanting to eat. they just arent hungrey.

other times though they are starving and polish off loads.

tonights meal was a fiasco, lots of grumbling and moaning, and pushing food around.

so tomorrow its sandwiches.

If they get a hot meal at school- why not?

It's not as if you're starving them.

Perfectly healthy

shrinkingsagpuss · 04/03/2008 19:20

sounds fine to me.
Ds is only 3, but when he's had a hot meal at lunch time, tea is often sandwiches yoghurt and fruit.

CitroenDrivingFootballMum · 04/03/2008 19:21

you are kind!

when my dcs have skool dinners then sandwiches etc is always what they get for tea!

one cooked meal a day is plenty IMO

misdee · 04/03/2008 19:21

but what about dd3?

mind you she would live on sandwiches

lol.

I used to do this a lot with the children I looked after. They called it 'cold' tea. They used to ask for it. I used to make sandwiches and they'd have it with fruit, carrot sticks, cheese cubes, crackers etc. All on the same plate.

ArmadilloDaMan · 04/03/2008 19:22

can you give her a cooked meal at lunchtime?

Or just something like jacket pot and beans.

CitroenDrivingFootballMum · 04/03/2008 19:25

on skool lunch days dd2 and i have our main meal at lunchtime too. or make sure we are asked out for lunch hehe

dh has to make do when he gets in but dont think he minds...

misdee · 04/03/2008 19:27

i'm sure i can 'lunch out' with dd3 at least once a week.

good idea about jacket potatoes, she loves them.

just fed up with cooking and stuff not getting eaten.

oh definitely sod the cooking then.

tonight ds has football training. if he had a "proper" tea before he will puke (yes, i know, you really needed to know that).

therefore, today is skool lunch day, ds and dd1 have had whatever it was they had ( as don't know), dd2 and i were taken out for lunch by my sister and everyone has a nice cheese buttie for tea.

everybody happy

Not at all - 2 days a week my children get a packed tea in the car - otherwise they wouldn't eat till after 7pm and they can't hack that (neither can I!!) I take the view that as I am paying for them to have their main meal at school they shouldn't expect a hot meal at night ie thay have to try what is on offer. I only relent when I know it's something they both really hate - but only a couple of times a week at most. Otherwise they get sandwiches, or sausage rolls, or suasages in a pitta bread, with fruit, yogs, flapjack etc with Smoothie to drink for extra goodness!

binkleandflip · 06/03/2008 11:10

I dont think my dh would be happy with a sandwich tea every night and because we all eat tea together I do tend to cook even tho dd has had a hot meal at school. I dont think she always eats that much at school either so at least I know she has had a good tea.

stleger · 06/03/2008 11:20

Toasted sandwiches are a cooked meal, aren't they? That's the way to go...

Novicecamper · 06/03/2008 11:23

Mine have packed lunches and still want 'picnic tea', as they call it, for their evening meal. They just aren't that fussed about hot meals - they get one most nights obviously but if they want picnic tea - salad, veg sticks, fruit, cheese, ham, yoghurt, breadsticks, toast/muffin etc - it's not going to kill them is it? It's full of nutrition.

bundle · 06/03/2008 11:23

toasted sandwiches
eggy bread
couscous
are as far as I normally go esp as they have a snack at after school club

WanderingTrolley · 06/03/2008 11:27

I would keep the sort of food you can keep rolling out if they're still hungry - eg sandwiches, slices of quiche, cold new potatoes, carrot sticks, salad etc.

You could also keep food that you can eat cold or (microwave) hot: new potatoes, pizza, cheese on toast can be done in a microwave, ditto pitta pockets of cheese/tuna/sweetcorn etc.

VictorianSqualor · 06/03/2008 11:45

Beans on toast.
That's what my two get if they've had a hot meal already and I can't be bothered to cook again.
