Turning to MN as I've seen similarish threads before that were very supportive.

Long story short: I have masters in law (but did social science under grad) but have never built up a career as I had ds at 25 (he's now 18) and he is severely disabled so I haven't worked since then. When he leaves school and gets his own benefits I suspect I will have a massive shortage in (benefits) income and I will need to do some sort of work in order to survive. BUT, I will have to be predominantly home based as in theory he' ll be at a day centre for 4-5 hours a day, but I can't rely on this as he has medical appointments and periods of sickness where he'll be at home 24/7.

I've done a lot of voluntary work over the years, such as ESL teaching (I have CELTA qualitication), tutoring at GCSE level, legal advice helpline for children with SEN. I'm very passionate about marginalised children/families and education and keep myself up to date with current issues. I also do CPD mental health and child protection type courses.

Is there anything I could do a consultancy type self employed job with? Or any other ideas? I'm not keen on teaching ESL online as that is a VERY saturated market. AFAIK in order to qualify for any legal roles I need to work full time outside the home, so again not an option.
Any advice welcome 💐

Could you do counselling? You could be self employed/ wfh

feralunderclass · 20/09/2023 19:28

@Zanina thank you for the reply. I actually did a counselling course some years ago... I'd worry that I'm not qualified/knowledgeable enough though. It's something to think about though.

Social care work? Quite a lot of wfh and flexibility . Or nhs bank? Like doing the vaccinations for flu etc ?

feralunderclass · 21/09/2023 09:43

@Ponderence thank you. What sort of wfh jobs could I do with NHS? I thought vaccinators had to be HCPs, that's an interesting one.

Lots of charity jobs are remote these days and they're often nice employers. Even some hybrid ones they might only want you in once a month.

Will look into that @Zhougzhoug thanks.
