I've been having trouble with a colleague in logistics since i started 5 years ago . He makes things awkward, making me do things for the sake of it. He's about 30 years older and pushes his weight around with me especially

I meant my rant to sound angry but just cracked into emotion halfway through. Everyone was pretty shocked as i'm normally happy go lucky, take it on the chin

How do I move forward. I think I need to speak to my manager and aibu to escalate this now? I have gone off sick with stress due to this conflict but pretended it was flu

Its affecting your work you need to raise it.

Woahtheremate · 19/09/2023 11:24

Does he have the power to make you do things? You need to raise this with your manager

Strictly speaking no, he's horizontal in hierarchy
In practice he can be outspoken and intimidating causing a fuss over nothing

What’s the relevance of saying that he’s older ? Be careful when you raise this with manager .. Age is a protected characteristic.

would learning how to assert yourself without drama or confrontation help?

Maybe OP feels the need to do what he says out of respect. Lots of people still give older people respect automatically.
OP, if he’s not your line manager, and can’t dictate what you do, ignore him.

By all means, escalate it to your line manager.
It’s disgusting if others have seen how he treats you and said nothing. Unless they’re all afraid of him

Thanks yes that is the case
To update things have improved and the informal talk his manager gave him has resulted in more professional communication from him
I think I was often fobbed off by the director with whom I had a lot more contact than my manager. His response was always whether I had taken a holiday recently
I've realised a lot of frustrations led to this moment and am giving my notice tomorrow.
I've lost my mojo with no promotion or pay rise in 5 years and I'm doing two jobs atm making me very tired as I can't survive on my main job.
My title is incredibly entry level even though I have full responsibility for 4m of orders and am training senior people
