Broadband termination

AIBU to refuse the the offer of £15 off my next month broadband bill of £28.50 pcm?

On the 10/9/23, I asked Talk talk for an extension to bill the due bill in 30days time and it was approved which means no termination of services.

But on the 11/9/23 I paid the full bill

Few days later, I sat at my desk at home to work but no internet and I initially thought it was internal and I tried different things and then chatted with talk talk and the agent initially said it was not terminated but I got disconnected from the chat

I started another chat and then was told it was disconnected and I asked why because a 30day extension was approved and then I paid the full bill the day after the approval so I do not owe and they said it was an error on their said and the against said I have always owed them and I said that's got nothing to do with the current situation because I do not owe for the current bill so there is no reason to be terminated.

I was told to wait 2 hours and switch off my router and they switch it back on after 30mins that.

I asked to be compensated because I am going to loose income from work and I was offered £5 which I turned down because by my calculations, I was going to loose 3 -4 hours pay

I got a call and was told they can do more that £10 and I said £10 does not cover my 3 hours lost of earnings and she said manger said to take £15 off next months bill

And I said no because that still does not cover 3 hours lose if earning and she said they can't do that and asked what I wanted and i said not to pay next bill so, that will be a credit of £28.50 and she said that is not possible and I said £28.50 does not cover my 3 hour pay

They she said I was no terminates for up to 3 hours and that she want to contact the tech team and I said I can trust them because they were the same people that terminated an a account that should not be terminated and I was told at 1st that acc was not terminated and later told it was terminated so how am I to trust that I will get the correct time of termination and reconnection,

They are going to call back tomorrow but AIBU not to accept £15 and to be pressing for my 3 hours to be paid for?

What does the terms and conditions say about outages? Your answer will be in there.
Can you not make up the three hours pay you lost? I would take the £15 personally.

I think you're lucky to get any monetary compensation at all, so I would accept the £15.00.

Our internet went off fully for around 4 days in our home at one point this year. We had to have it as unpaid leave at work (WFH), meaning that we lost multiple full days worth of pay.

We put in an official complaint to the internet provider, that was escalated to the top level, requesting compensation for loss of earnings. They point blank refused. We then went back and asked for money of our next bill as a good will gesture. But all they kept saying was as it wasn't a business account, they're not liable.

I have not checked what the terms and conditions says but they said it does not allow it to be more than £10/£15 etc but then then I told them this does not fall under that terms and condition because broadband was terminated for no justifiable reasons ie , I was not owing, I had an extension in place, it was not an internal fault, it was not and external fault or an outage but it was terminated internationally all be it an error on their side, I still lost 3 hours of pay. That's the way I see it and I should not have to suffer for their own mistake in this current climate of high cost of living with 2 young children and a single mother.

Do you have business broadband? If not, you sadly won't be compensated for loss of working hours.

Motomum23 · 18/09/2023 14:31

Yeah you'll get no where with talk talk. You could try the ombudsman but frankly it's an error they apologised for and offered a fair compensation.

ILikeItWhatIsIt · 19/09/2023 08:40

You need to read your terms and conditions. That's what you signed and agreed to. They really don't need to offer you anything that's out with that.

If it’s residential broadband you’ll get nowhere. If you rely on the internet for work you need a backup plan whether it’s connecting to a personal hotspot on your phone or even wandering down to use McDonald’s WiFi

I'm with another company and was offered the monthly cost divided by 30 (30 day month)

Yabu to expect your lost wages to be reimbursed- I would have gone somewhere like Costa or McDonalds and used their wifi.
