Do I need to take baby to be checked out?

Hello

Currently in Portugal with 4 month old DD.

She was in the shower with me and I accidentally got some on her face and she must have panicked and swallowed some because she become hysterical which then lead to her being all blocked up and struggling to breathe as she was crying so much. DH immediately sucked on her nose to clear some snot as we both panicked, she cried for about 5 minutes now she's asleep after drinking her usual 6:30pm 6oz bottle, she's breathing normally and pink in colour.

She has refused all naps today and was overtired but needed to shower her off as she had sand in her little rolls and sun cream all over her.

I googled and read about delayed or secondary drowning? Do I need to get her checked out?

I feel like a shit mum and I've cried my eyes out. I'm never taking her in the shower again. I was sat down as I was scared of her slipping and DH was with us in the bathroom but I just didn't notice that the water was on her face for a couple of seconds.

It sounds more likely that the water going on her face has just given her a fright. Possibly could it have gone in her eye? I’d keep an eye on her but bet she’s fine.

If you are at all concerned get her checked out

@HTruffle I thought that too but since she first started bathing I've always got a bit of water on her face to get her used to it and she normally doesn't bat an eyelid but maybe because we were in the shower it was a different sensation to when I rinse her hair in the bath at home and I don't pour water directly on her face. I'll keep my eye on her.

Thanks @fairyfluf she is awake now (power nap) and giggling away, I think she's fine but will keep our eye on her.

Has she had a shower before? My DS is 4 and is still absolutely hysterical if he has to have a shower. He's always been like that since he was a tiny baby.

She will be fine. I take my baby in the shower all the time. It’s good for them to get used to water on their face, if you don’t do this she probably got a bit scared. I would suggest to keep putting a bit over her face so they get used to it and make for a happy water baby. Blimey in swimming lessons they make you dunk them right under!
