Emetophobia is so debilitating

i am so fed up with this phobia. It just ruins your life. Anyone else got over it or any ideas for a cure or some help that actually works. I’ve tried CBT and hypnotherapy and I am still petrified. Is the food gone off? Will I catch that tummy bug going round? Why can’t I risk trying to get pregnant as I just about scraped through and am so grateful for my DC but I basically had a breakdown due to morning sickness

Anyone anywhere actually got over this fear? Please any help?

@JKDcot Can you remember when and why this started? I had a client who was petrified of travel sickness. It transpired that when he was about 11 he'd thrown up during a school coach trip and had been ridiculed/ostracised by his friends because of it.

This was so traumatic for him (11 being a key age in social development) that his subconscious mind determined that being sick was the worst thing in the world and that travel was the likely culprit, so that even the thought of being on anything that moved triggered the feeling and the fear. As we talked further it turned out he'd been sick as soon as he got on the bus so it was very probable that it had been a stomach bug, or something he ate (or simple excitement!) that caused it - not the motion of the coach. When his subconscious understood that this response was neither helpful or relevant it simply stopped triggering it. He's now happily travelling around the world by all and every mode of transport!!

Being sick is a very efficient way of expelling toxins that could cause us serious illness. We don't do it for fun, it's a necessary bodily function for immediate getting rid of unwanted germs. Framing it in that way helps the mind understand that, while it's never pleasant, it is vital in protecting us from further danger.

I have it and have had it since I was a child. Since I’ve had children it’s got better because I’m busier so haven’t got as much time to focus on it.
things that have helped:
• distracting myself
• saying ok there are other people who are so ill and they cope, I can cope with this
• letting myself stay up all night (I like to do this when panicking about being sick) but telling myself I can only do this if I watch tv and don’t panic

These all probably sound strange but have helped me!

Ugh I have sort of similar, although it’s not the vomiting for me it’s the whole thing, actually vomiting is probably better because it usually staves the nausea off a bit. It’s just the nausea that terrifies me, and stomach pain to a lesser extent. What makes this extra fun is I also have IBS and acid reflux 🙄
