Are my children Scottish or English

Have recently moved down south from Scotland with DH and our three DC aged 9, 4 and 10 months. I think the kids will grow up considering themselves to be Scottish, as that is where their parents come from, and where they were born. DH reckons they will end up considering themselves to be English, as this is where they will be growing up.

Not that it matters, really 😁

They'll grow up socially and culturally English while mindful that they're Scots born. Whether that has any impact on them is up to how you raise them.

My dad moved from Glasgow down to south England when he was 17 he lost his accent - occasionally he will slip into it depending on speaking to family! His brother moved down a few years later at around 20 - 40 years later he still sounds like he lives in Glasgow!!

My dad still very much sees himself as Scottish.

I remember seeing a programme about the actor John Barrowman on television some time ago. He was born in Glasgow and moved to the US when he was quite young and, as you probably know, usually sounds all-American but, the moment he went to visit his parents, his Scottish accent immediately came back!

i moved to Scotland from England 18 years ago when my 3 DS were 2, 4 and 7. Other school mates that had moved at a similar time also had strong English dialects. Fast forward to now and those other kids have really strong Scottish accents including one that was thick Brummie and another Mancunian. My 3 DS now in their 20s however are still surprisingly very (south) English sounding! Is it because I’m a WFH mum that talked too much?!

My kids are born in and have always lived in England and still consider themselves half Scottish as their Dad is fully Scottish.

Nationalism in the Scots js strong, I don't think your older kids will consider themselves English if you don't.
