Hi, need people in the know and NC to get closer to the info!

How much would you be paid if you were what is called a 'Vice President' at an international/ global bank?

You would have been recruited in another large international banking city and now work in London.

You have more than 20 years experience in international investment banks.

Your last known salary is the equivalent of £168,000 in 2018....

What are you on now?!!

Can’t imagine he is on more than £150k if he’s a back office VP

silentquery · 14/09/2023 21:59

@randomusername2020 I know- it sounds like I'm making it up it's so weird... I mean my full time working salary requires UC to make it liveable and he's on what the absolute lowest estimate on this thread says is twice as much as me. If he's on what he was 5 years ago then he's on almost 5 times my salary- and not only does he not pay- but he complains when he deigns to see them that they are in 'supermarket clothes' and how dare I dress them in secondhand clothing...

My family want me to leave the arrears and just get CMS to enforce. But the minute you click the button it wipes out any arrears and if he'd been paying the (foreign) court ordered CM he owes £60k. I have used my savings and cashed in my pension to survive. I think he should be forced to pay the arrears and can't let it go. They are desperate for me to just get CMS going (probs so I stop borrowing money!)

As CMS tops out, him earning approx 150-200k is irrelevant as it just stops. Seems bizarre. He will pay 16% of his salary to costs of our 3 children if we go by CMS. I pay all plus UC plus loans and overdrafts. His amount would just stop overdrafts and start paying off loans. Also I could start sending them to their clubs again etc.

I hate that he doesn't care about them.

Good luck OP!

Christ. 20 years management experience in the arts and you’re lucky to top £40k.

eastiseastwestiswest · 14/09/2023 22:11

I've never been a banker but I wouldn't be in the least surprised if it was well over 200k

septemberoctobernovember · 14/09/2023 22:14

VP in tech 5 years ago was 130k basic plus 100% bonus. Don’t know if that helps. Not a particularly junior role. Next step up was MD

In what sort of crazy world does an employer call people who are 'quite junior' a 'vice president' and then pay them £168k five years ago Confused

Many banks use VP as a title for what most would think of as manager level. Junior as in its not even a senior manager level role and there will be thousands of them.

Whereas to people outside of banking VP sounds like it's the second top job with president being the top job.

If he works at DB as a Senior VP/Director he will be earning £300k plus bonuses

Are you not allowed to just pursue them without wiping out the debt?

Have yo considered Court under schedule 1 of the children's act?

One of those evil 80's Tory MP's had a child who was profoundly disabled (requiring 24 hour care) that he didn't want to pay for - she had to take him to court

I was told that a schedule 1 would cost upwards of £50k in my circumstances, which negates me doing it as his assets, while hefty in my opinion, aren't enough for me to risk that amount of money I don't have.

He hid the money in the foreign court and I couldn't afford a forensic accountant. Entire divorce settlement 3 years ago was £30k for me and the 3 children.

Really surprised at folks saying vice president in banking isn’t that senior. It’s one of the most senior roles. Depending on scale of bank it will be a hefty package, 500 k plus some bonuses,

in my company vice presidents are on seven figures.

Curiosity101 · 15/09/2023 08:20

@Janieforever I suspect it must massively vary between organisations. The bank I referenced is the same as yours. Director is above Senior manager. And above them is Senior Director, then VP, then senior VP at the top.

AlrightThen · 15/09/2023 10:34

I ask for specific salary, say a specific number and they give me a specific smile.

Does it matter?

Triffid1 · 15/09/2023 10:44

I worked for European investment banks for years, including a German one. VP is mid level as many others have pointed out. I would fully expect that he has been promoted to director now (in an American bank, that would probably be "executive director").

I am not 100% about this but I think the "bands" for base salary for European banks might be publicly available via their investor relations/compliance statements. Because a lot of banks have had to cut back on bonuses etc.

I would make a decision on an attempt to claim the backpay by contacting a solicitor and paying for advice. So pay for 1-2 hours of their time to make a decision on whether the risk/reward is worth it.

Glad it's not just me. If I ever got a job as Vice President I'd be stunned to realise I was only 'junior' staff.

When I was promoted to director, quite young, I can assure you that all my VP friends were impressed and possibly a little jealous Grin. Banking is a weird world.

The VP title is a funny one. So is executive - in the UK we use executive to mean entry level / junior but in the US they use it to mean someone very senior

silentquery · 15/09/2023 20:32

I'm going to see a solicitor and see if it's worth it to pursue. I just need some fecking money really.
