To think I was made to panic for no good reason?..

I went to the doctors yesterday due to abnormal bloating for weeks now. I figured it could be IBS or something.

The nurse took a urine sample and did a routine pregnancy test which was fine, thought nothing of it. I then heard her in the corridor saying to colleagues “there’s definitely a faint line there, isn’t there?” And them all agreeing. My heart dropped.

She comes back in and said “it’s very very very faint, but there’s definitely something there”. She didn’t show me the test though even though I asked to see it. I asked if I could do another and she relucantly gave it to me. It came back negative.

I did one this morning, also negative.

I am absolutely not TTC so this panicked me so so so much. I feel really stressed because of how it was handled!!

I'm afraid I think YABU.

She did a necessary medical test, and got a second opinion from her colleagues about the result.

It's perfectly possible there was a very faint line because you miscarried very early and the hormones are leaving your system.

So you overheard her ask her colleagues and then she told you, you asked to do another test and she let you?
What should she have done in your opinion on?

Blinkinbloodyhayfever · 14/09/2023 16:15

I can't see they did anything wrong. She saw a very faint line, confirmed it with a colleague and then when you pushed she let you do another test.

MatthewsMumFromTikTok · 14/09/2023 16:16

What did she do wrong??

Not her fault you act like a sensitive sally is it!? What do you want now? An investigation'?

YANBU

Not about the 'being made to panic thing' but about discussing your medical test result with other clinicians in what I assume is a 'public' corridor? That patients are walking through or could be?

Regardless of whether you are identifiable or not, that's unprofessional. If she needed someone else's opinion she should have found a confidential space.

Unless the nurses were standing in a public corridor with random strangers milling around, I fail to see how this was mis-handled really. She obviously wasn't convinced so asked her colleagues for a second opinion which is good practice. You asked to repeat the test, she did and it was negative.

Are you stressed because you still don't have an answer as to why you aren't feeling well? That would be quite understandable.

FloweryName · 14/09/2023 16:49

You were not made to panic and the nurses getting a second opinion is not for no reason. You are being silly.

Lilolilibet · 14/09/2023 16:54

She shouldn't have discussed your results in earshot with colleagues in a public area. I think you're correct.

She should have showed you the test when you asked.
