To hate my teeth and get clip in veneers

I HATE my teeth, they are really knocking my confidence.
I never smile in photos because I feel they are absolutely awful.

My top 2 have one line half way between them that is yellow, its not from lack of brushing the dentist said it's how they formed and to rectify I would need to pay for fillings on them. My bottom front one has a filling but the colour is slightly off so you can tell. They aren't straight and pearly white like I want. I could get the fillings on the top 2 but if the colour isnt 100% matched what is the point and also I hate the shape of them anyway!

Has anybody personally had the clip in veneers? I've been looking at them for months now but I'm put off by the fact they remind me of the fake Dracula teeth around at Halloween. They were awful to wear even as a child 😆

I cant post a photo because I honestly couldn't take the negative comments people would say.

I've always wondered if they look realistic.

KeepingItTogether23 · 14/09/2023 12:38

@gamerchick me too, dont want to spend £400 and they look and feel awful, the internet is full of fake reviews so I wanted somebody who has personal experience with them to share how they actually feel and look

If you read the blurb , in very, very small print they will say that you cannot eat with them in. Quite often this is because they break, or more often your teeth do not meet together to allow you to bite.
The plastic is just that , plastic and again if you read the small print the expected life span is 12 to 18 months.
They look just what they are .... plastic fake teeth .

isthismylifenow · 14/09/2023 20:29

Why don't you put that money towards proper veneers? I know they don't last forever, but would last way longer than plastic covers. Which I've not even heard of btw.

Long term you may need to consider crowns though.

Lollygaggle · 14/09/2023 20:32

Crowns are very destructive. Quite often tooth whitening and some composite bonding and tooth shaping can give a nice result at less cost both to your pocket and teeth.

KeepingItTogether23 · 14/09/2023 21:40

@Lollygaggle I have actually emailed my local dentist for a consultation for both tooth contouring and composite bonding 😊 looks much better than clip in veneers

If you get those clip in veneers, you're gingival /periodontal health will be severely compromised. You may as well kiss goodbye to your remaining natural permanent teeth as they'll end up extracted /exfoliating.

KeepingItTogether23 · 14/09/2023 22:36

@AcclimDD thanks for the advice 😊

These are my DH’s teeth. I did the composite veneers myself ( I am a dentist). His teeth were worn with a few gaps. I don’t like to do very straight and all the same size because they look so unnatural. We were able to lift the shade by doing the four front teeth.
It does take a good 2-3 hours to do them well. I use a layering technique that gives more life like appearance. I used to do a lot of porcelain veneers but they are very lifeless and the modern composite gives much better results and can be polished or further lightened by adding more of the enamel layer.
They stay on just as well as porcelain veneers since we use a composite based cement to stick porcelain in.
ps I have my husbands permission to use the images and I have cropped them so there are no identifying features😁

Ps the photos were not full clinical views just quick before an and afters so are not quite central.

@Angrymum22
They look amazing and as you say so natural. I bet your DH is really happy with them. (I would be!).

AcclimDD · 14/09/2023 23:05

Yes @KeepingItTogether23
That's what you should aim for something like @Angrymum22 post.
Oral hygiene can be maintained with this in a straightforward manner v clip on veneers....I am also a dentist.

KeepingItTogether23 · 14/09/2023 23:22

@Angrymum22 what kind of price should I be looking to pay for composite bonding? I know everywhere will ge slightly different but just a rough guide would be great please.

They look fabulous

£200 to £300 a tooth . Also be aware depending on your diet they can stain and need polishing and will need maintainance .
some I've done have lasted 15 years plus, some need topping up more often . 5 years is the normal lifespan quote given.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 15/09/2023 08:52

So I did boutique whitening and had fillings done on the two front teeth and it's improved my smile so so much! Was considering Invisalign but now don't feel I need it. Love photos now!

I would try that before veneers

I would spend that money and go private.

Private dentists can colour match everything, and can even change the shape of teeth

I had two of my bottom ones filed down as they were longer.

I had bad teeth that i hated so much, one of my front ones was twisted and UGLY so i had it removed and an implant put in

Yes I had a loan to do it, but I will never regret it, as everyone and i mean EVERYONE has noticed im smiling and laughing more now

BEST DESCISION I HAVE EVER MADE

KeepingItTogether23 · 15/09/2023 09:49

Ďefinatley not going to get the clip ins now 😂
I'll save up a few months and get them done properly, I'm hoping to get the top 2 shaved down a little and then have them composite bonded.

@HollaWithDaRisinSound how much did you pay just for the filing down?

I'm interested in composite bonding too but have been discouraged by the dentists I've seen about it. One said veneers were a much better option which surprised me (I don't think she's an out-for-the-money kind of dentist). Another said that when I bite, my upper and lower teeth are quite close together so they might be uncomfortable. Can anyone tell me if they had this problem or if there was any discomfort to having them?

Lollygaggle · 17/06/2024 19:13

The bite ie the way your top and bottom teeth meet can very much effect both what you can do with bonding/veneers and their longevity. It’s difficult to say anything else without examining you in person.

calorcalor · 17/06/2024 19:35

Could I change my bite, with braces or a retainer enough that it would give me better options with bonding do you know Lollygaggle? Would that take years?

Braces are the way to change your bite but how long that would take is dependant on what your bite is like in very, very severe cases braces and surgery are necessary , in less severe cases results can be seen with just braces in around a year.
Really only a dentist who can see you, your teeth and x rays can give you a treatment plan. That may well vary from dentist to dentist because give two dentists the same patient and you will get three treatment plans all of which will be valid and have their pluses and minuses.

calorcalor · 17/06/2024 21:52

My teeth look and feel absolutely fine (I had braces and a retained as a child) so it would just be to make them more suitable for composite bonding. They're really yellow and whitening does very little.
