Twenty-minute tummy bug

Not an AIBU, posting for traffic. Can anyone tell me what this is? I felt fine all yesterday. Woke up in the early hours of the morning hot and drenched in sweat, with bad stomach pains. Made it to the bathroom but was feeling really awful, like you do when you have flu and can’t stand up, so I lay down on the bathroom floor for 10 minutes. No diarrhoea or anything (sorry for TMI). After 10 mins or so I was feeling able to go back to bed, but I still had really bad stomach pains and was feeling sick. Tossed and turned for another 10 mins or so - moving seemed to make the stomach cramps worse so I then stopped, and was feeling awful - after which I started to feel ok again and fell asleep. Feel normal this morning. I had something similar happen around Christmas, seems totally weird.

For info:
I’m not menstruating and don’t think I’m ovulating, it’s day 10 of my cycle. I don’t usually get ovulation pain.
I’m definitely not pregnant
I hadn’t eaten out yesterday or eaten anything that would be likely to cause problems
I’ve more or less been at home for the past week, don’t think I’m likely to have picked anything up. No DC so it’s not a back-to-school bug.

What is this??

You haven't unwittingly consumed something in a meal, which you are unaware of? Too many sweeteners can upset my stomach, and it's surprising what they are in (for example I found them in gravy granules). Things like onion salt are commonly in some foods too (sauces, cheese and onion 'sausage' rolls etc), and can again irritate some stomach linings. Sometimes it's also not one of the irritants, but that you consumed two or more of them without realising, or too much of something else, and that's started it off.

I’d say a case of trapped wind. It can be excruciating and cause nausea etc.

Bad wind in your stomach. Can be like that and worse.

Was it definitely stomach cramps or could it have been "javelin arse"? That thing where your colon goes into spasm when it gets caught in the crossfire of hormones from the uterus.

A lot of people experience it as short, shooting pains but I only get it in the middle of the night, it's excruciatingly painful, and it can last 20 minutes before it starts to ease off.

I've had this a few times in the last 20 years. Literally thought I'd have to cancel plans at the point of being on the loo and then after half an hour, I was totally fine. No idea what it is or why it happens but it's never become a bigger issue.

This was definitely stomach cramps…. I have had javelin arse in the past (I think!) but only around menstruation.

Interesting that posters are suggesting trapped wind… I did wonder about this, but would it give you that flu feeling of not being able to stand up? Also (again TMI, sorry) I didn’t release any wind before starting to feel better and falling asleep…
