Damage by delivery people

We bought a sofa bed from a company online and it was delivered last week, two delivery men brought it in without too much fuss (I had moved everything out of the way) but there was a bit of in and out of the doorway. They left once I signed to say the sofa bed was fine and they had shown me how to unfold it.

About an hour later I realised that they had taken paint off of the wall and also broken an internal door, it has obviously been pushed too far back and has split.

Anyway long story short I emailed the company and they took a few days to get back to me to say they were looking into it and today I hear back to them basically saying that there isn't anything they can do and if it was a difficult delivery then I would have been asked to sign a waiver (I wasn't).

So aibu to think that it isn't acceptable? Surely delivery people can't just damage stuff and it's just oh well 🤷‍♀️

Would you leave it and accept defeat or email again?

An Asda delivery driver smashed down the picket fence in my front garden. I spent 6 months going round in circles with their customer service team. Then gave up. Not even a sodding goodwill gesture.

I'm sure you've taken photos, I didn't as I didn't realize who had done it until the neighbour sent me CCTV footage.

F*ing bastards.

You can't prove they did it. So I can't see they'll admit it now.

Bloody hell I can't believe he knocked down a fence and they didn't do anything.

I honestly don't think I'll get anywhere.

That's what I'm thinking, I didn't take photos before they arrived so can't prove anything. I should have checked before they left but they made it into a big rush, one jumped in the van while the other opened and shut the sofa bed then got me to sign and was gone not even shutting the door behind him.

I think the complaint is valid if you've raised it that quickly with photos of damage. Worth pursuing IMO.

It can depend on the company. Who did you buy it from?
We had a dishwasher delivered and installed with John Lewis. After they’d left, (and I’d signed the form saying all was fine), I noticed a couple of scratches on the adjacent cupboard door. I took photos and called them straight away. They said they’d have to speak to the delivery guys and get back to me. A couple of days later they said they accepted my complaint and sent me a cheque for £250. I felt this was fair, so I’d use them again.

It was from a company called Willow and Hall.

Have you asked them for a copy of the waiver you signed?

A well known sofa company broke the wooden threshold off from my front door when delivering a sofa and didn't bother to tell me - just threw the pieces of it into the porch. 7 months later I was offered £20, and only after I referred to it on their social media page. Tossers.
