To get rid of my CDs

Will I regret this.

I only listen to stuff on Spotify but have boxes of them.

We also have a record player and DH collects vinyl. He has a large CD collection he won't get rid of.

Will I regret it? Should I just shove them in the loft?

As we still have a record & cd player I've kept mine. I can't bear to get rid of the records as a lot of them are from my teenage years & before, so lots of memories! But I still use Spotify the most, so my dh would get rid of the lot if it was left to him.
The cds don't mean half as much but i still don't want to get rid of them. Instead I've sifted out the ones I don't really care about keeping & taken them to a charity shop. I've then bought cd/dvd wallets that hold a large number of them, & put the insert cards & hard plastic cases into the recycling. Done the same with the few dvds we have, which are mostly family home videos. It's cut down on so much clutter.
Places like Music Magpie will only give you pennies at the most for them now, whereas 10 years ago you could probably get a couple of pounds for each of them.

I dumped hundreds during a recent clear out once I realised I dont even gave anything to play them on any more

Mine are long gone. I used Ziffit for the ones they wanted, then stuck the rest on ebay as a job lot. I didn't get a fortune for them, but it was better than chucking them!

If you have space in the loft I'd put them there. A few decades from now they might be worth money!

My record player is fairly new, but my cd player is a good quality one with a cassette player & radio, from the early naughties. Still sounds good though. And I'm embarrassed to admit that I still have about 10 cassettes from my youth, stored in one of those portable cassette carriers from the 1980's! I like to think of then as historical artefacts to show the grandchildren 😄

I got rid of all my CDs years ago except for a few particularly special ones. I've not regretted it once.

They take up so much space and I listen to everything on Spotify and YouTube these days.

Decided to keep mine, just in case. in fact, I have recently bought some more rarer ones that aren't on Spotify or anywhere and from way back when, and some from European bands that I like.
I still have a load of vinyl somewhere, too. Fortunately, we have the room.

If you can be bothered to do it, rip them to your computer before you bin them. It doesn't take too long. I ripped my 400 or so CDs years ago and threw out all but about 20. They took up so much space especially given some of them had only been played once.

Sevcondhandvinyl now sells for crazy amounts - even pretty ordinary stuff. Cassettes (the worst of all formats) are making a comeback at the moment.
Inevitably CDs will become desirable again. I would stick them in the attic and wait.
