AIBU to say no to SIL visiting

DH has a sister with two DD age 5 and 7, our DD are 8 and 12. Both of her DDs have contagious Molluscum and are always wanting to be physically close to our DDs when they visit - always self invited - that’s important for this thread. Always want to be carried, hold hands, played with etc. Really don’t want my two to get it - SIL makes no effort to cover it with bandages, her DDs are continually scratching and their hands are everywhere. Get that mine could pick it up unwittingly at pool etc but when SIL knows her kids have it and makes no effort to cover it, what should I do? I know it’s pretty harmless but don’t want mine covered if it can be avoided.

You can say no for whatever reason you want for your SIL visting

DilemmaDelilah · 13/09/2023 13:19

Ask her to let you know when the molluscum has completely cleared up so that you can arrange for the children to get together. Hopefully that will let her know you're not happy for them to mix until it has gone.

Of course you are a reasonable to refuse as per pp. if caught, could your two reinfect hers too? Big picture time, Christmas is coming

EvilElsa · 13/09/2023 13:27

Agree with just telling her.
I'm assuming she is fully aware it's contagious?

NeunundneunzigHorseBallonz · 13/09/2023 13:29

Just tell her!

DinnaeFashYersel · 13/09/2023 13:32

Molluscum can last for 2 years. Are you prepared to stop contact for a couple of years? Because that's how long it can take.

I was once the parent with the scabby kids.

My sister threatened not to visit with my nieces in case they caught it. It was very upsetting for me and my children.

We agreed ground rules. My kids wore long trousers. No hugging. No sharing towels. We covered up a few big ones with plasters.

And my nieces went home without catching it.

About a year later they caught it from somewhere else.

That’s a great suggestion! She’ll probably take offence but hey ho!

Oh really, I didn’t know that. Your suggestions are great but my SIL sets her own rules and won’t want to do that. Should really be DH telling her anyway as it’s his sis.

Think so but she thinks that cos her kids g have it that must’ve caught ut from someone else who wasn’t careful so why should she be.

Are the spots on their hands? If so, that makes it a bit tricky. But what do they do at school etc? Like PP said, the spots can last years and your children are likely to come into contact with it from somewhere else anyway. Can they wear silky gloves? Call them princess gloves or something?

fairyfluf · 13/09/2023 13:47

Are you going to avoid them for 2 years?
