Is this excessive bobbling? I wonder whats its going to look like after a wash? Can't take it back as its been in my wardrobe for a while.

Depends, did you have a bag that cause friction? My DD has a lovely sparkly bag and that ruined a satin dress.

MonoLisa · 13/09/2023 10:20

That's pretty poor tbh

No. Its across the front on the edge along the bust cross over

Seatbelt rubbing it? That's where I get bobbling on a lot of stuff.

ItsNotRocketSalad · 13/09/2023 10:26

It looks like it's been worn a lot and gone through many washes. Never head of Principles, was it expensive?

DefecatedCoconut · 13/09/2023 10:27

Things only bobble like that with friction so something has definitely rubbed it to make that happen.

tuvamoodyson · 13/09/2023 10:27

Yes…looks like it’s from a seatbelt

DyslexicPoster · 13/09/2023 10:28

I think its the two hems rubbing on each other?

OP posts:
LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 13/09/2023 10:31

It’s definitely been rubbed by something. Only friction causes that. Seatbelt, bag, something…. If you can’t take it back anyway there is not much to be done sadly. You could try shaving off the bobbly bits.

They were on every high street back in the day! OP that’s very disappointing. Agree you could try shaving the bobbles off.

Where?! I spent half my teens at various high streets in and around London and never heard of this brand. Maybe I'm the wrong age or have very selective amnesia!

RoyKentFanclub · 13/09/2023 10:55

Principles disappeared from the high street (in England at least) in about 2010. It was a main high street brand in the 90s and 2000s

It's a Debenhams brand I think. Used to be good quality at one time.

RoyKentFanclub · 13/09/2023 10:57

now it’s concessions in debenhams etc

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 13/09/2023 10:58

There used to be a Principles on every High Street until about 2009. Clothes like Dorothy Perkins or Wallis. Similar price range. It’s now a label within Debenhams.

M4J4 · 13/09/2023 11:00

Same for me, bought a dress for the summer from Principles but it has already started to bobble a bit after 2 wears and not washed yet.

I’ve decided I’ll just keep it as a beach dress as it’s still very practical and comfortable, and was reduced to £13.

Fast fashion is a pain.

clarebear111 · 13/09/2023 11:14

Have you got a debobbler? I got one from Amazon. They do a good job at removing bobbles from clothes and I find it quite therapeutic watching them all disappear...

That could possibly explain the bobbles on the underneath layer, but not the bobbles on the upper one. It's very odd indeed.

Privatelyliving · 13/09/2023 11:20

All my workwear came from Principles for years. I think they went bust and Debenhams took the brand. It's not what it was!

I'd return that if it's only been worn once, even if it was bought a while ago. You might not get anywhere, but should try.

JudgeRudy · 13/09/2023 11:30

If you've had a shoulder back rubbing I'd say it's tough. I really can't think of any other way it's happened. I was going to ask if you're fat as sometimes fat bits touch but this is baffling.

And then it regrouped itself, and was available in Debenhams. And still is, at Debenhams online.

OP, do you have one of those debobbler gadgets? That might work.

That's what I was thinking. The two layers rubbing wouldn't cause bobbling on the front.

Based on the width and direction of the bobbling, it's either a seatbelt or a cross-body bag.

DyslexicPoster · 13/09/2023 13:48

I have a leather type strap back pack so it's not that. I drove yesterday but I drive daily and this has never happened to any other dress. It will be interesting how it washes.

I would also recommend a de-bobbler. I use one regularly and also on cushions and it brings things up like new. The dress looks jersey which is often a pain for bobbling but it should settle down.

DyslexicPoster · 13/09/2023 14:49

Yes it is Jersey. Like a t shirt stretchy material. I think it's going to fade in the wash too
