Not enjoying my new job

I've changed my username as otherwise this thread is really outing.

In a nutshell, I started a new job in my existing school last week. I've been transferred out of KS1 to KS2 and for the job, it's good hours. It's close to home. I've been there 5 years and I thought that the change would make me feel a bit fresher and reignite my love of working in a school.

However, the reality is that I come home every day feeling angry and resentful. I'm used to working in a nurturing environment but with this job I'm in the thick of it every day and the personalities are much harder to deal with. It feels like every day I have an issue with someone. Today the DSL shouted at me for interrupting her in a meeting when a child in my class started having a tantrum. I've had issues with the deputy as well.

I love the day to day of working with the children but I'm already thinking about handing my notice in just because I'm fed up of the adult bullshit. Does anyone have experience of dealing with difficult adults? Would it be unreasonable to look.for a new job already?

Yes it's hardwork, rise above it.
But I have to ask why you interrupted the DSL for a child's tantrum?

Staff room politics and other adults was why I gave up teaching! Loved the kids and actual teaching though.

Can you return to your previous position?

They've replaced me. Towards the end there were issues and I'm not sure I want to go back.

I'm really thinking about changing. Curious to know what you do now?

If you are a TA/LSA, you will have no problems getting a new job! If you have experience in that role you will be snapped up.

Fwiw, I once worked as a Y6 TA and lasted less than a half term 😬. It was one of the worst jobs I've ever done. It was a mix of the school culture and a bit the shit adults I worked with, but it was a horrible job in the end.

Funny to have stumbled upon this thread - I’m a TA who is also wondering tonight if I’ve made a big mistake by accepting my current job. I’ve been at this school since last term but now in a new year group with an extremely challenging class. Five boys are causing total havoc and I was in tears this evening. It’s the well behaved kids I feel sorry for, and I’m frustrated that all I’m doing is correcting behaviour when I should be supporting learning.

I’m looking ahead at the coming year, realising I’m never going to work with any children other than the incredibly disruptive ones, and the thought of dealing with that behaviour day in day out is making me want to quit already.

I’ve also been roped into some 1-1 work which was not part of my job description and I dread it every week.

We don’t need the money but how can I hand my notice in so soon!?

It's hard to know what to do right now. I promised myself I would review in December. I'm not someone who gives up easily but another part of me just wonders if it's worth it.

I've taken on a new TA role too and whilst it's not awful I am not sure if it's for me. There's too much expectation to take the reigns on your own and to stay after finish time which makes that very difficult when I have my own dc to pick up from school!
