Aibu to think it’s middle class? Someone at work told me they wouldn’t shop there as it’s too low brow and badly made 🙄

Anyone own anything from there that’s lasted!?

I love their wellibobs!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 12/09/2023 19:56

I have a few tops and also bought kids stuff and it's good quality.

everetting · 12/09/2023 19:57

Middle class as it is not cheap, but nothing special

Peacendkindness · 12/09/2023 19:57

I have a beautiful navy tailored jacket with a stripy silk lining it is so lovely I’ve just given it to my daughter for sixth form and it is fitted and lovely. Far nicer than M and S.

AnneNotEmily · 12/09/2023 19:58

Im not sure if I’m backing up your argument or not but I’m pretty solidly middle class and never shop there. I don’t love the flowery look and their clothes are the wrong shape for me and look awful. I do buy some of their children’s clothes though

BrioNotBiro · 12/09/2023 19:58

It's been rubbish quality the last few years before it went bust. I had to take take four jumpers back (all different) as the seams just came apart during the first wear.

Madcats · 12/09/2023 20:01

10-15 years ago their stuff used to last and wear well (a bit like Boden before they got carried away with 'trendsetting' designers).

They used to make good, practical clothes (particularly for kids).

CruCru · 12/09/2023 20:03

I … am not sure. I remember someone once saying that Labradors were some people’s idea of an upper middle class dog but there are too many for that to still be the case. I wonder if that’s now the case with Joules (clothing, not dogs). They were very middle class but became less so - and at one point pretty much went bust.

I wouldn’t hear that someone shopped there and think they were middle class for doing so.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/09/2023 20:04

I admit that i see it as middle class. They sell it at Center Parcs for one thing 😂

I do have a pair of dark blue chino type trousers from there that have been brilliantly useful though

TropicalTrama · 12/09/2023 20:05

I thought they went bust because anything above age 2 was fucking hideous ?

Princessandthepea0 · 12/09/2023 20:06

No, it’s very 8 years ago.

Lovemusic82 · 12/09/2023 20:06

I think it’s middle class but pretty poor quality too. I have owned a few items, their wellies are awful for actually walking in, mine sprung a leak after one walk in the countryside, I think they were made to just look pretty. I haven’t bought anything from there for at least 10 years 😬

Barbiesback · 12/09/2023 20:07

I can only comment on the kids stuff. Definitely MC it is not cheap

Heatherbell1978 · 12/09/2023 20:07

I think it's middle class. I think less about the price but more about the style. They kind of market themselves at the horsey/rugby/sailing crowd. Very similar to Crew Clothing. I have quite a few bits and bobs as do my kids.

Snugglemonkey · 12/09/2023 20:07

I have a 15 year old navy raincoat that I use every year. Still immaculate. I also have some tops that are knocking on 8 years that are still grand. My old wellies lasted me for years, but the last pair lasted 2 weeks. I was raging!

I have bought a lot of clothes for the children, they have always been outgrown rather than worn.

I am wc really, but v well educated, well employed and living a v mc lifestyle I suppose. So maybe I just like Joules because I am common 🤣

dearanon · 12/09/2023 20:08

The quality has went downhill and their sizing is odd, especially in the kids range. Dd was 3 and age 6 was snug.

BabyofMine · 12/09/2023 20:09

If Boden and Joules are no longer the middle class “thing” - what brands are?

Nevermind202020 · 12/09/2023 20:09

I've had a few Joules items, all bought second hand but in new condition. I stopped buying them when I realised how quickly they faded and/or shrunk in the wash - I'm pretty sure that it's not just an issue with how I wash clothing because this only seemed to happen with Joules (and occasionally M and Co in terms of shrinking). Many of the items are also a set 'look' which doesn't appeal that much to me tbh.

amberisola · 12/09/2023 20:10

It is definitely middle class although I bet a lot of the middle class people who wear it will deny this!

cherrypied · 12/09/2023 20:12

It was middle class aimed at the country wellies and a gilet brigade about 10-15 years ago then became much more main stream and the quality went way downhill and then it became dated, cheap tat from the outlet.

Bit sad really -victim of its own success.

AnIndianWoman · 12/09/2023 20:12

Yes it is solidly middle class. But a lot of middle class people live off credit cards so they can buy ‘high end designer’ clothing from outlets. The number of people I know with £££ Balenciaga t-shirts is ridiculous.

SoIinvictus · 12/09/2023 20:12

I don't care what class it is, the linen t shirts are brilliant. Indestructible. Keep their shape and not transparent. Unlike H&Ms.

cherrypied · 12/09/2023 20:13

Hush and scamp and dude?

Constellationstation · 12/09/2023 20:14

How can clothes be low brow?
