To get a heat pump Samsung dryer?

Mum1976Mum · 12/09/2023 15:11

Sorry to put it here but I urgently need to get a new dryer as my elderly parents are quite poorly and so are having mine to keep on top of all the washing. I have a Samsung washing machine so ideally want a Samsung dryer to match. However, Samsung now only do heat pump dryers! Which I have heard aren’t great.

Do they take hours and hours to dry a load? Is it possible to just dry a school shirt in a few minutes like I currently do if I need one urgently? Do they save huge amounts or money?

or should I stick to another condenser from
a different brand, even though it won’t technically match and may look a little odd in the kitchen?

I’ve got one and Iove it. I use the cotton drying program for just about everything. It always says 3 hours but it self adjusts and never actually takes that long unless it’s a heavy load. It’s very economical as well to run, I have some stats if you want to see them?

I've got a Samsung heat pump dryer and it's fantastic. Much better than the condenser I had previously.

pastaandpesto · 12/09/2023 21:43

We have an expensive samsung heat pump dryer and it's a pile of shite I'm afraid. It doesn't actually dry anything, just tosses it around for hours and hours before singing a smug little song and presenting you with a pile of wet, very faintly warm laundry. The 30 minute setting couldn't even dry a pair of underpants.

It was definitely the wrong choice for us because we line dry clothes inside all year round and so only need to use a dryer for when we need something in a hurry, which is is incapable of doing.

Passthecoffee · 12/09/2023 21:47

@WhatWouldMrMannersSay - just checked and its always on cotton and no 3. I've never used any other setting. Just seen I can silence it as well. My drying is primarily kids leggings/tops/underwear/school uniform/towels.

I have a LG heat pump dryer, synthetic clothes take about 1.5 hrs for a full load, and cotton towels, sheets duvet covers about 2 hrs for a full 9kg load. I love it, costs a fraction of my old dryer and clothes come out lovely. Only thing to be careful of is keeping the lint filter very clean, empty after every dry as that can destroy them.

WhatWouldMrMannersSay · 12/09/2023 21:50

Thanks @Passthecoffee I'll check the settings in the morning.

My experience is very much the same as @pastaandpesto I'm afraid. Although I enjoy the wee song.

Yellowlegobrick · 12/09/2023 22:24

I'd also add - its much better than our old vented dryer for not shrinking things.

It DOES work, but not in a rush. I usually plan on around 2 hours to dry a normal load.

Its a solution for wet winter days when you cannot dry things outdoors, and towels you want soft. It's not a solution for disorganisation/leaving things to the last minute.

Think this has given us our answer. Thank you!

I've got a heat pump Samsung dryer and I love it.

Old dryer (hotpoint) my smart metre said £1.15/Hr electricity.

Samsung one - 17p!!

And doesn't take noticeably longer to dry.

I love it.

Have the matching washer. They talk to each other and the dryer knows which cycle to use based on the load the washer washed.

Heyhoherewegoagain · 12/09/2023 22:33

I have a heat pump AEG and it’s amazing! I don’t notice that it takes much longer than my old big standard and it’s definitely a lot kinder to clothes -it doesn’t make things “crispy dry” like my old one did, no matter the setting.
Id be more concerned about the performance than matching another appliance. My current washing machine’s a Bosch

DilemmaDelilah · 13/09/2023 02:42

We have a heat pump tumble dryer but I can't remember the make. There are only 2 of us and we use it a lot, but only during the day when our solar panels are generating electricity (not necessarily when it is sunny). It is incredibly economical for us, usually it doesn't even register on our smart meter, but it takes about 3 times as long as our previous vented dryer. If I had a family and needed to get things dry in a hurry I would definitely NOT buy another heat pump dryer, as we are now it is absolutely fine.

wonkylegs · 14/09/2023 15:40

I have a Bosch heat pump dryer and have just dried a full mixed load in 1hr 16mins which is only 10mins extra time on the condenser I had previously

I would say a full load of towels can take a bit longer but a general mixed load dries well.

Ours is extremely cheap to run.
Helps if it's in a heated space in winter though otherwise it will take longer /more power due to the temperature difference . Doesn't bother me as ours is inside the house.

Don't know how good the Samsung ones are though so it might be different for different brands.

Which Bosch did you get ? I cannot decide 😂

I've just got a Samsung heat pump dryer. I love it so much, it's like my third child.

Not sure about a couple of items but a full load comes out dry after 1.5 hours. Just I tiny by of dampness on jean waist bands if I overfill it.

Excited101 · 24/11/2023 13:20

I have a Bosch one- I love it! Apparently they are slow compared to ‘normal’ dryers but I’ve never had one so it’s great for me! A full load is about 3 hours I think.

PegasusReturns · 24/11/2023 13:26

I had TWO Samsung heat pump dryers can’t remember model but they were white with large black doors and matched the washing machine.

First one broke 3 days after 1 year warranty expired. Annoying but replaced like for like because I liked the way they looked.

The second broke after 8mths. Samsung were shit, was beginning of covid and it couldn’t be repaired despite warranty. Bought a cheap condenser as a make do. Been going for three+ years. It’s on pretty much constantly.

Tragicroundabout · 24/11/2023 13:32

We've had a Beko heat pump dryer for a couple of years. It replaced a condenser dryer and I can't imagine ever getting another condenser. I don't notice a huge difference in time taken to dry things and everything comes out pretty dry. The cost savings alone would make it worthwhile.

LinenUnionGlassCloth · 24/11/2023 13:38

I use wool dryer balls in mine, it makes a huge difference to drying time.

Katemax82 · 24/11/2023 18:47

I have one it is great. Takes longer but I normally put 2 washing loads in and it can be left on all night
