Help, posting for traffic…

2 hours ago I carefully used an oven mit to take a frying pan out of the oven. Seconds later I had a brain fart and went to pick it up minus the glove

We made the mistake of first going for ice but have since had my hand submerged (and moving about) in a large bowl of lukewarm water

its been 2 hours now and every time I either stop swishing my hand or take it out I’m in AGONY and tears

i can’t see blisters al though my hand is shrivelled from the water! But I have white spots across my palm and up my fingers

Anyone else made this stupid mistake and have advice? I don’t know how I’m going to sleep!

Vaseline? Cling film? Leave to air? Help!

I did this - two ovens, thought I turned one on and took a tray out of the one I actually turned on. It hurt.

Oh lord I bet that's painful, hope you feel better soon op 💐

autienotnaughty · 12/09/2023 01:52

Hope you are ok. You need cold running water to stop the burn getting deeper.

I once picked a hot iron up by the metal bit. Thought it was off! That was a a&e job

I once had a brain fart and poured boiling water over my hand rather than in the mug,

I was in agony and went to minor injuries and what they put on it was a miracle. The pain went immediately and no scaring or blistering.

@ReviewingTheSituation Honey is a good option for burns and unlike many ideas (specialist burns dressings for example) is something many people will have to hand at home. It is a safe option once the burn site has been appropriately cooled.

"Prospective randomized controlled clinical trials have proved that honey treatment leads to significantly more rapid healing of superficial and partial-thickness burns than that achieved with silver sulphadiazine, polyurethane film, amniotic membrane, and potato peel.2,11-20 However, in full-thickness burns, early tangential excision and skin grafting were found to be superior to honey dressing.
In superficial and partial-thickness burns, honey treatment of burns has resulted in an effective control of infection that is much better than that achieved with current standard treatment, silver sulphadiazine, and other substances"

No oil or fat based substances though!

OP - how fast, and whether it blisters depends on the severity of the burn, very severe burns don't blister, and a burn on the palm of the hand may not blister anywhere nearly as quickly as a burn elsewhere (the skin on our hands is pretty tough stuff!).

Topical Application of Honey for Burn Wound Treatment - an Overview

The use of honey in the treatment of burn wounds is discussed and an attempt is made to assess honey's current status as a burn wound dressing. Various kinds of honey are considered, as also the history of its use for this purpose since ancient times....

Looks like nothing!

It doesn't look like nothing! Those wrinkly patches are damaged skin and would have had honking great blisters had you not acted quickly. Hope it's feeling a bit better today.
