To report neighhours to the police for smoking cannabis?

Our neighbours smoke cannabis for several hours a day, most days, but worse at the weekends when they smoke literally all day. They smoke it right outside their back door so it blows directly up the side of our house and the flat above them and seeps in through the windows but seems to get in even if the windows are closed. As a result our house stinks of cannabis,. Neighbours both side are pissed off as it's literally every day plus our next door neighbour in the flat above shares a garden with them and they let their dog crap all over the garden and don't clean it up for days. I've asked them twice before to stop smoking cannabis all the time and they said they would but didn't and completely sick of the stench, plus my 5 year old has had breathing trouble the last 2 weeks which we think could be linked to the smoke. Also to add that they have 2 kids of their own, a 5 year old and baby and I dread to think how much exposure they're getting. I want to call the police as I want it to stop but I hate being a snitch plus fear reprisals, as do our other neighbours who share the garden with them. AIBU?

Hi there,
There is a way you can report it to the police and council, so they do something. Report it to the anti-social team for your council, who will write a warning letter to the neighbours directly or to their landlord. Another way is to google your local SNT (safety neighbourhood team) for the police, then call them up and register te complaint. They will go round to their house and talk to them directly. If they fail to listen, then you can write them a warning letter saying you will start court proceedings, and take them to court for an abatement request. If you get that, then any further incidents will now be registered as a criminal offence.

So sorry, this is awful. Weed stinks and the amount they're smoking it is excessive, are they students? Young kids as well, being constantly stoned is surely an issue for social workers? Fair enough if having a couple of spliffs on an evening or weekend but all day every day?! If they're renting can you complain to housing association or landlord? As many have said no one cares ad hard to prove and not noise related. Hopefully new laws will be brought in for unsociable nuisance order.

I'm currently going through this now and the cops don't do anything considering this lad is only 17 next to me. My baby girl has also had numerous visits to the doctors about breathing issues
