LinkedIn Dads

This might just be me being a grumpster. September rolls around and without fail we have the 1st day at school photo of Dads with their children on LinkedIn. These are usually accompanied by commentary about how lucky they are to be able to take their children in on their 1st day, and what a great work/life balance they have. Lots of comments from others "great job mate", "awesome isn't it".

Only that's not a great work/life balance really is it. There are many more school runs beyond day one (especially in the middle of winter when its pissing down with rain and not nice like September), so how about asking the employer for flexible working, sharing the load EVERY WEEK and enabling your partner to have a job that doesn't rely on working around school hours. Now THAT would be worth posting.

It feels like the 1950s all over again, when it was a novelty to see a man pushing a pram "ooh well done you".

I have to use LinkedIn for work, but it’s the most vapid, self centered platform. It’s Facebook for professionals, and none of it is genuine.

Parents posting their children on it to talk about how amazing their work/life balance is is just a marketing tactic, and it’s a special kind of ick to use children to gain more attention for you or your organisation.

YANBU, OP. Many posters on LinkedIn would sell their soul to have one of their posts reach a CEO, so they see no issue in using their children

Linked in is so cringey now. I only use it occasionally to congratulate people on promotions or look at people I might hire. I get too many weirdo messages on there from randoms.

Linkedin is 90% full of people who talk out their arse.

"Once I was walking down the street and saw a homeless woman doing complex sums in the dirt. I took a chance on her and now she's the CFO"

"A man was rude to me on the bus, turns out he was my next interviewee"

etc etc

It's faux motivational stories and bullshittery.

Oh, and the other 10% is polls for some reason.
