This is not meant as being judgemental at all, I’m just curious, but aren’t Prime drinks energy drinks that are meant to be bad for kids?? It’s just I see so many children drinking these now! I just saw 3 different groups of children under 10 with them walking out of Asda.

I understand some are energy drinks, others aren’t.

stonkytonk11 · 09/09/2023 11:18

It's not an energy drink like red bull/monster as not hot caffeine in it. Prime more like lucozade sport I think so not great but not awful for kids

LoudestRoar · 09/09/2023 11:19

Cans are the energy drink, the bottles (which is what most of the kids are after) is overpriced coconut water.

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 09/09/2023 11:19

Prime sold in cans is an energy drink with high caffeine content not suitable for children.

Prime in bottles is a hydration drink mostly consisting of coconut water. Suitable for children

bridgetreilly · 09/09/2023 11:27

It is deliberately confusing branding, so that kids want it to feel grownup but have a different, more suitable, version of the drink.

BarbaraofSeville · 09/09/2023 11:28

It seems to be everywhere now, so I assume it is no longer attracting the shortage premium and changing hands for silly money?

I noticed this same in Asda this week. They had their own shelf at the end of an isle... tons of Prime (bottles)

Crispyperifries · 09/09/2023 11:43

Prime Bottles are basically flavoured coconut water - so any age can buy them
Prime Cans are energy drinks like red bull - not for under 16’s

1upmushroom · 09/09/2023 11:49

The bottles of prime are as other posters have said just flavoured coconut water. Not great, but definitely no caffeine etc.

When pressed by my teenagers I started my 'it's just a gimmick, you're being brainwashed by advertising, it's overpriced' speech, but then I remembered being a teen and occasionally wanting something in hindsight that was rubbish but at the time made me feel 'cool' 😂

So I relented and bought them some. To be fair, in Tesco it was £2 per bottle. There's no way I would have paid more than that.

flingoringo · 09/09/2023 11:59

The craze is thankfully dying down now. But yep the bottles are fine for kids. Tastes rubbish though.

Same, when it was at the height of the craze for it earlier this year there were shops selling it for £8 a bottle and parents going to the supermarket at 7am to try and get some. I told my 12 year old I was not prepared to do either of these and that she would get some when I saw it at £2 and I was on my regular supermarket trip anyway. There does seem to be more availability now, Morrisons had loads on the shelf last week including the new pink one that's she's been wanting to try so she was happy.

Timmytap18 · 09/09/2023 12:06

It's basically cordial. Shit and overpriced but not an energy drink

Lostlostlostagain · 09/09/2023 12:38

Ah fair enough, thanks for clarifying!

Kids drink stuff that's bad for them all the time

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 09/09/2023 12:48

Even if they were "bad" for kids, what of it??

Lostlostlostagain · 09/09/2023 14:38

🙄

It's a drink or two on the summer months. Get over yourself!

Lostlostlostagain · 09/09/2023 15:16

😂🤣😂 your getting a lot more worked up about it than I am! I was just asking a question. Blimey, some people on here! 😂🤣😂 Have a good day!!

Not worked up love... just laughing at the weird threads..

LizardLizard · 09/09/2023 15:21

Who put you in charge of soft drinks OP? The Prime Minister? The UN? GOD??!!!!

How dare you make a harmless observation. Please cease passing comment on aforesaid matters.

BooksAndHooks · 09/09/2023 15:26

Just like fruit shoot in a teenager friendly bottle. Horrible tasting stuff but no worse than fruit shoot.

Lostlostlostagain · 09/09/2023 15:32

Telling someone to get over themselves for just asking a question seems weirder than asking the question to me, but ok! I already said I wasn’t judging anyone, was just a genuine question as to whether they were ok for kids!

OP posts:
Lostlostlostagain · 09/09/2023 15:34

😂🤣😂 so sorry Lizard! I will do my best to keep my harmless observations to myself in the future, especially if I dare to post of AIBU! This place is truly full of PRIME vipers! 😂🤣😂 I think I’m funny anyway 😂

I'm using this description from now on Grin

cannaecookrisotto · 09/09/2023 15:47

I don't get the hype. My child fucken loves it, so I gave in and bought her the bottled version. Tastes like shite!!
