Pharmacist/GP or just over anxious mum? pic attached

My 2 year old was bare foot a few days ago and has stood on something, I don't know what unfortunately which has pierced the skin under his foot (right on the crease of his toe).

Normally I'd just wash it which I have but I'm just a bit worried that I don't know what it was and that the redness seems to be reaching round now to the front of his toe.

I appreciate the wound is very small so I may be being totally OTT, he seems fine in himself although does keep telling me it hurts and won't put it in the bath/shower. I'm just concerned because I don't know what has stabbed him!

Would you bother the pharmacist with this or just continue to monitor the redness?

Just to add, it was outside, not in the house.

Would definitely pop in to see a pharmacist to be on the safe side. They can at the very least maybe give you some cream to put on it or will point you to the GP if necessary.

NeedMoMoney · 09/09/2023 10:27

Is it warm to the touch? If it's warm and red it can be a sign of an infection, I would take them to the pharmacist for them to have a look, they may refer you to take him to the GP if they think he made need antibiotics.

I'd be concerned there was something in there, get him seen

That's Minor Injuries at the least, not 'should I bother a Pharmacist?' territory.

MoxieFox · 09/09/2023 10:54

Pharmacist. That’s a puncture wound and you need to get some wound spray to irrigate it and clean it out. I think pharmacists can also prescribe some antibiotics too? Thought I read something about that?

AlwaysFreezing · 09/09/2023 10:57

I don't like that redness and think you should get him seen. Not sure a pharmacy will be able to do much, but it'll do as a starting point.

Poudretteite · 09/09/2023 10:57

Looks like it could be infected. Don't think of it as bothering a pharmacist, think of it as being a responsible parent. Good luck

rainbowunicorn · 09/09/2023 10:58

I would get him checked not at either the pharmacy or minor injuries

3dogsandarabbit · 09/09/2023 11:03

Get him checked at the pharmacy, if they think it needs to be seen by minor injuries they will tell you. Have you got a magnifying glass, as the wound itself looks open, could there be glass in there?

jeaux90 · 09/09/2023 11:05

The second photo it's very red so definitely go to the pharmacist.

MadeForThis · 09/09/2023 11:15

Minor injuries.

MidnightOnceMore · 09/09/2023 11:18

If redness is spreading it should be properly checked. Walk in/minor injuries IMO.

Itsa1 · 09/09/2023 11:43

I've just been to the pharmacist and got some cream. He doesn't think I need to worry about tetanus as it's included in his first jabs but I'm to keep an eye on the redness and if it spreads further or he becomes unwell he'll need antibiotics likely.

Glad to hear you've seen the pharmacist. I'd draw round the red patch with biro so you can be sure if the area grows (or better, shrinks)
