To not want to review every item I buy?

MinnieCountrywoman · 08/09/2023 10:41

I’m really fed up of being pestered to review items, getting flurries of texts and emails every time I venture into a store, being told I have to review something (etsy) - I am probably being grumpy but I find it really intrusive and annoying. Is it just me?

No, it’s not just you. Amazon are forever asking me to review things. Usually things I’ve already reviewed. Every time Evri deliver a parcel, they want a review. On the other hand, I wish Royal Mail did. They’re rubbish.

SunflowersAndSmellyTrainers · 08/09/2023 10:47

No it's not just you. So annoying. I don't bother usually unless I've bought something exceptional or had exceptional customer service, which is rarer than hens teeth tbh!

TeeBee · 08/09/2023 10:47

Oh god, they do my bloody head in. I make a note of those company that bombard me and make a note never to use them again.

GCAcademic · 08/09/2023 10:48

Yep. And not only are you asked to review everything you buy, but the latest thing seems to be that you're asked to review the courier who delivered it.

Magenta82 · 08/09/2023 10:49

Tesco have started asking me to review random products as well.
Half the time it's not even new products, it's stupid things like carrots.

MyHornCanPierceTheSky · 08/09/2023 10:51

I bought the cap things for my tyres from ebay (no idea what they are called, they disappeared one day while I was at work...)
Any way am being harangued for a review of them, am ignoring on principle now!

latetothefisting · 08/09/2023 10:51

Half the reviews that are usually provided are useless as well, the constant request for reviews seem to make some people think its compulsory so write something entirely irrelevant like "don't know haven't used it yet/it was a present" or mark the item down because of an entirely unrelated issue "item was as described but I measured the size wrong so had to return it"....

How the fuck do you write a review for carrots?

I was disappointed that they were all different lengths, tasted like vegetables and don't come in a wide enough choice of colours🤣

I agree with you OP, it's bloody irritating and a pointless waste of time.

longestlurkerever · 08/09/2023 10:57

Totally agree. Also places. I feel quite defensive of our local green space that google keeps asking me to review- it didn't hold itself out to be a tourist destination, not everything needs reviewing.

Even on Airbnb where reviews are useful it's way too much - people ask, and it's clear that anything less than 5 stars is perceived as a mortal insult. Makes it all pointless as well as intrusive.

MinnieCountrywoman · 08/09/2023 11:59

I’m glad it isn’t just me. The other problem is that it’s hard to be truthful. We stayed at an Air BnB that was lovely but if I was really trying to help others I’d have said it was better for adults only or families with older children as stairs were very steep and no stair gates. No criticism of the place but it would have come across like that.

I've never reviewed anything in my life!

If I do write reviews (and I ignore most requests as I am also fed up of them) I always tell the truth. I think owners should appreciate that. I recently left one for a cottage I went to, advertised as dog friendly and with an enclosed garden. It was lovely. It was rural (down a lane). It was dog friendly. The garden was in no way enclosed and there was also an open section about four feet wide opening on to a lane used by horses (stables down the lane) and some cars. My dog would never stray once told where his boundary is, but most dogs would and could have been hurt or killed unless tied up or watched constantly. That isn't "enclosed". I said so.

Scylax · 09/09/2023 14:09

You’re not unreasonable, it’s very annoying! I’m glad to have the opportunity to review something but I hate being badgered to do so. And I totally agree with the PP about the stupid ‘haven’t used it yet’ or ‘I didn’t read the description properly so I blame the product’ reviews. They really annoy me tbh.

Be aware with places like Amazon and Etsy it's usually the platform not the individual sellers, who have no control over these automated emails.

Mrsjayy · 09/09/2023 16:24

It drives me mad I now amuse myself by saying things like "!package arrived" my favourite was our dog food I said. Dog ate it .***

Its totally unnecessary the constant reviewing of nonsense.

KnottyKnitting · 09/09/2023 16:28

Agree- delete most of the emails- occasionally review for either excellent items or diabolical.

Just ignore them!

Presil · 09/09/2023 16:33

It is annoying.

When a company's requests get to the stage of annoying me I sometimes write a nonsense review. Petty and pointless but it amuses me.

Daffodilwoman · 09/09/2023 16:33

Yep I especially don’t like it when it’s something which needs reviewing after a long period of time. By the time I had used my new bedding, washed it and put it back on the bed, I was told I was too late to review it! What is the point of reviewing bedding and such like before you have washed it?
I see a lot of reviews saying ‘I haven’t used/worn it yet.’ Totally pointless.

Missingpate · 09/09/2023 16:44

Agreed so annoying. Just switched to a new breakdown cover provider who have been badgering for a review. I’ll review them if / when they’ve actually done something, thanks!

JMSA · 09/09/2023 16:46

I know OP, it's relentless.

Did anyone see the Black Mirror episode, where society was built on validation and the likes? We're getting to be like that.

Smartiepants79 · 09/09/2023 16:49

Well it’s mildly annoying but not enough for me to get het up about.
Just ignore AmaZon and don’t give out your emails in shops.
I would ask if you read reviews before you buy stuff or book things? If you rely on other peoples reviews to make purchasing decisions then it’s a bit silly to be cross when they ask for your opinion to help someone else.
I write reviews occasionally when I feel I have a strong opinion either way.

HallieParkerJames · 09/09/2023 17:10

I recently ordered several sets of nail wraps, and have constantly been asked to review each individual one since the day after they arrived. I've barely tried the first set, let alone all of them and they're supposed to last a few weeks

Also, Deliveroo/Uber Eats forever wanting me to rate the driver... he literally arrives, walks down the drive, hands me the food and walks off. I don't know how you can give that a rating between 1 and 5 🤔

JadeSeahorse · 09/09/2023 17:19

Grr! Totally agree OP!

I recently purchased a sofa - pretty expensive - for our disabled dd's apartment. Delivery in approx. 9 weeks time.

As soon as I arrived home there was an email asking for a review which I ignored. Received 3 more within the next 7 days and finally sent a reply stating that I would be happy to review once the sofa has been delivered and we have had it for a few weeks and not before.(Salesman seemed very nice but could be a bigger liar than Tom Pepper with what he promised so we will see.)

That stopped the emails!

AnchorWHAT · 09/09/2023 17:23

I do sometimes r3veiw but only because I spend a lot of time reading reviews on things I might want to buy and generally find most of them useful. I like to know if something is as advertised or works well or is ok but broke easily therefore i feel it only fair to add my reviews but not on everything, only things i think might prove useful to someone. So if sizing comes up small or large its useful to know or-if something is nothing like the picture or is good / poor quality i will make it known.
i do find myself getting cross at all the requests though, especially for the same courier every time, i told you weeks ago he was fine or for the pointless ones for really small obvious stuff where it really is exactly what it is.
