To ask what you think a reasonable lifestyle is for this income?

They have a DS (11) and a DD (8). Mum and Dad both work full time and when combined their income is £155,000 before taxes. What is a reasonable lifestyle for them to live? How much can they afford to spend on cars, can they afford private school, holidays, etc?

These piece of string questions on MN about, how much should I pay for this house, how much disposable income should I have, what is a reasonable lifestyle on this income are really baffling. Do people really not possess basic critical thinking skills to know that no one can offer any useful opinion on it without knowing a ton of other information. Like where do they live, mortgage etc.

Does the general population really struggle with basic comprehension to this extent?

Depends where they live/mortgage/family money/priorities/ages but...

I would imagine them in a 450-750K house, kids at state school, decent cars, very good pension provision/savings, savings to start kids off in life, can pay for tutoring/music lessons/hobbies easily, nice holidays but nothing flash. Comfortable.

Why?

Comfortable but don’t particularly feel it. This is similar to our income (except I’m part time so we’re slightly less) and because my husband is the high earner, we lose a lot of his through tax.

500k house

No money worries per se but do have to watch spending at certain times of the month if it’s been a tough month for necessary outgoings

State school x2

Kids can do extracurricular activities they want

Holiday x2/3 per year (one hot, one city, one British)

Luxuries would be trips to the pub, the odd meal out, nice food / wine at home, clothes if we fancy them

Big purchases need to be planned / saved for
