... to ask why people are still wearing masks?

I've seen several people wearing a mask in shopping centres and on buses and trains.

I've got COVID at the moment, probably caught from a theme park in Devon. I guess it's reasonable for people to be cautious again.

Lou670 · 08/09/2023 09:24

@KatyKopykat I think it is a ridiculous question when you do know the answer to that one.

KatyKopykat · 08/09/2023 09:12

"She" (Who's she, the cat's mother?" to quote my grandma) has been travelling from one end of the country to another, not glued to Mumsnet. Though I have been reading the responses. Also I've not sneered at anyone; maybe you have me confused with some of the other vehement posters.

Not sneered at any one single poster in particular, only at all mask wearers - including the genuine people with real life difficulties who have kindly answered your ever so innocent question:

Judging by the replies I don't think we'll ever see the end of masks.

KatyKopykat · 08/09/2023 09:29

@inadarkwood My response was neutral. Strange how people read what they want into basic statements.

@KatyKopykat 'Strange' how you cherry pick the points you reply to and ignore the points you want to.

I thought that response was neutral, I don't detect any 'sneering'.
I hadn't twigged about the upsurge and new variant mentioned on this thread, I wish I had. And yes, in the light of this I agree mask wearing will be continuing.

I hope that it'll become normalised as one of the standard health and hygiene measures people may choose to use, as it is in some other countries.

Thanks for this, I have found answers hysterical in some cases and quite rude and nasty. No need for it, simple answers will do.

Sexist labelling.

Well, eventually we will, when the pandemic peters out.

I thank you for your noble effort in bringing awareness to the need for masks at this time smile 😊

Your question was neutral. Your sole response to all the explanations from individuals about their circumstances, all the explanations from those more informed than you about the current rates of covid infections and deaths... was that. I don't find that neutral.

Being neutral is having mutual respect for the other party. Everyone's circumstances are different, I am sure mine are different to yours. My reasoning for mask wearing is being CEV and my daughter is a nurse. I do however respect people like yourself that choose not to wear a mask. Your post was goady whether you intended it to be or not. You know the reasoning of why some people continue to wear a mask, the question did not need to be raised.

I have said, more than once, that taken in context with her "question" in her OP, and her lack of any response to any single post answering her "question", that to write only that one sentence in regard to the topic - while ignoring all the answers given - displays her insincerity in asking that "question". YMMV.

Lou670 · 08/09/2023 09:48

@Keyworks Well it does imply that she does not agree with the mask wearing and would like to see an end to it.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 08/09/2023 09:51

Personal choice. I won’t be wearing one (other than in healthcare settings) even if they allegedly become “mandatory” again but couldn’t care less if anyone else does.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/09/2023 09:52

I'd love to see an end to mask wearing, if it was because there were no longer reasons people needed to wear them!

TooOldForThisNonsense · 08/09/2023 09:52

Blinkinbloodyhayfever · 07/09/2023 21:59

I wore a mask when I had a bad cold out of courtesy when lots of viruses were rife this December. I think most people do the same now, don't they?

No. And I won’t be.

KatyKopykat · 08/09/2023 09:53

Lou670 · 08/09/2023 09:48

@Keyworks Well it does imply that she does not agree with the mask wearing and would like to see an end to it.

It's up to the individual to choose to wear a mask in particular settings according to their personal circumstances and none of that "bothers" me. There's nothing to agree or disagree with. I should have posted this in the COVID section (I didn't know there was one) perhaps.

Note my question was am I unreasonable to ask why some people wear masks, not is it unreasonable to wear a mask.

We’ve never stopped wearing masks.
We don’t do indoors unless necessary.
The pandemic isn’t over.
We understand health and the immune system and know it isn’t a muscle and there’s no real benefit to getting any virus let alone a novel virus several times a year.

What makes me LOL so much is the people who think they have “the flu” in summer 😂😂 or are shocked when they get covid because they “thought it had gone away because it’s not in the news” or those who say “covid is back” or when people see us in our masks so they sanitise their hands 😜 like that will help 😂🙈😂.

What a way to live your life.

Lou670 · 08/09/2023 09:55

@KatyKopykat I voted yes you are unreasonable as it is none of your business.

DameWhiskers · 08/09/2023 09:58

@KatyKopykat

Note my question was am I unreasonable to ask why some people wear masks, not is it unreasonable to wear a mask.

But surely you would understand why some people wear masks without having to ask? I think this is the problem here.

Lou670 · 08/09/2023 10:06

@DameWhiskers Exactly that, which is why I am thinking the post was deliberately made to cause a debate.

NotSoBright · 08/09/2023 10:15

My 86-yr-old mother is clinically vulnerable and had heart surgery a few months ago. She wears a mask if she's out in crowded areas. I hope that's OK with you.
