To ask what you've done recently that makes you proud of yourself

I finished decorating my sitting room on Sunday and I'm honestly so proud of myself.

My ex partner left my home in a terrible state and I'm slowly putting it back together.

I was constantly let down by tradesmen so got on with it myself.

What have you done recently that makes you proud of yourself?

On Tuesday my dh announced he was leaving me after 17 years for a woman much younger than me and came clean on the affair. I'm proud that I could forgive him.

On Thursday today, I messaged dh to wish him and his woman well and that he had my blessing. That i look forward to meeting her one day. I said I was glad he found love and that he found someone to take care of him.

And I thank THE LORD for this woman coming into my life. I thank THE Lord that he ended us when I did not have the guts.

And I thank THE LORD for taking from me this one bottle a day overweight alcoholic, ADHD, manic depressive, selfish, messy, nicotine, paracetamol addict, verbally abusive, neglectful, selfish man child and handing him to HER.

And I will patiently await a REAL MAN to come into my life.

Thank you this 31 year old for taking care of a broken old man into your prime years whilst I am free in mine. ThANK YOu SO MUCH.

That is beyond healthy - your attitude is something to be proud of 💐.

On Tuesday morning I went into FOUR shops on my own without support workers (autism and anxiety).

CookieDoughKid · 07/09/2023 23:04

@Greyfoot Ooo love Chinatown. What was the show?
@Doingtheboxerbeat thank you, your comment means a lot.

I applied for a BIG promotion at the age of 54. I beat over 250 candidates to get the job. My payrise is going to be £20,000 per year. I still can't quite believe it even though I got the contract through today.

Stroopwaffels · 07/09/2023 23:07

Got a distinction in my MSc.

Usernamqwerty · 07/09/2023 23:07

You're awesome!!! 😎

Mistletoewench · 07/09/2023 23:09

Embarking on a complete career change in my early 50s. Can’t quite believe I am doing it.

Mistletoewench · 07/09/2023 23:09

❤️ to everyone making changes to their lives, big or small

Usernamqwerty · 07/09/2023 23:10

I am finding this week difficult for lots of reasons, but trying my best to engage in self care 🙏.

SarahAndQuack · 07/09/2023 23:12

Well done you, OP! I totally get the feeling of achievement and security from knowing you can do it all yourself - and you can move on from your relationship.

I am proud of myself that, since I moved into my house, I've gone from being DIY clueless to learning to re-plaster, re-point, and do a load of other jobs I really didn't think I could do. I've also laid a path outside. Next I need to take out the concrete patio and concrete floors. I will get there!

Written chapters for two non-fiction science books for kids coming out later this year and next year. :) I always think of the reader being my DD

SquigglyGum · 07/09/2023 23:15

I love this thread! I am finally at a stage of my career that I love leading teams doing challenging work, and remembered the other day how scary a prospect that was 10 years ago. Now I'm doing it, loving it and doing a really good job. Imposter syndrome be gone!

TakenUpTheOxoTower · 07/09/2023 23:16

Learning to drive an automatic after 40 years of driving manuals! Car is quite a bit bigger than I’m used to, as well, so I’m well chuffed with myself👌

RubyRubyRubyRubay · 07/09/2023 23:18

I'm on Day 7 of stopping smoking. I feel so clean and relieved that I've got to a week.

thecatinthetwat · 07/09/2023 23:18

I went to an improv/acting class to help with my anxiety. I’ve been trying to make myself go for two years, and finally did it.

It was actually ok, maybe even fun… I’m going back next week.

Passed an Open University module with 83%!

Wow! I just saw this and I know how rare those are.

honeyfox · 07/09/2023 23:19

On Monday I drove myself to a consultant appointment in a hospital I haven't been to before. I'm a good driver and have passed my test but am nervous with strange routes so was chuffed. I am very competent in other areas of life but for some bizarre reason driving is my weak spot.

MinnieMouse0 · 07/09/2023 23:24

I finally allowed myself to admit I was not in a good place and asked for help with mental health ☺️

Next thing to conquer is the gym! I used to be such a gym bunny but haven’t been in about 4 years and find it very overwhelming to start back again.

Tabitha1960 · 07/09/2023 23:31

I was a chocoholic until 30th June. Since that date I have not eaten any whatsoever.

Tabitha1960 · 07/09/2023 23:31

A tradesman did a poor job so I rang him, made him return, and demanded my money back. (He handed it over.)

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 07/09/2023 23:32

Well done to everyone!

I'm really enjoying reading these.

@MinnieMouse0 you're brilliant, you really are for asking for help.

The state of my home got me so down, it became so overwhelming that I couldn't breathe at times.

I stood up for myself at work. Previous few people in my post have gone off with stress or just retired early to get away from a bully, not a superior but the way they act you would think they are. I made it clear today that I wouldn't put up with that.
I don't ever do things like that so I'm proud of myself for sticking up for myself and being confident in my own abilities.

MyFetch · 07/09/2023 23:33

Gemstar3 · 07/09/2023 22:00

Well done OP, that must have felt amazing! I passed my driving test yesterday after over 15 years of being absolutely terrified of driving, and yet really frustrated at my lack of independence. I’m SO proud of myself!

You are inspiring, @Gemstar3 !

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 07/09/2023 23:34

@Tabitha1960 good on you! I finally found someone that turns up and does a great job. I can't believe I finally have a sitting room again. I cried my eyes out in Sunday when I finally finished it and I think it looks beautiful.
