AIBU to ask DS' new teacher to spell his name correctly?

Pretty much as the title. DS' new teacher (Y3) is spelling his name incorrectly. He says it's on everything. It's certainly incorrect on his reading record.

On the one hand, it feels petty, but on the other, it's just a common courtesy to get it right....

Check With office that it's spelt right

Then say To teacher

Really surprised your son hasn't said anything

Good luck. Is it a name that can be spelt differently, Op? I have a name that can be spelt in a variety of ways - think Clair but people persist in spelling it as Clare. I have been at my work place almost 20 years and management often spell my name wrong. I hate the misspelling as it feels like it's not me. I have told colleagues often jokingly abd in a friendly way that it's spelt the way i spell it but some still persist in misspelling it!

DS uses a diminutive and I'm endlessly fascinated by the teachers different spellings (Ziel, Zeke, Zeek, Zek, Zeik so far...) but until he can spell his own name I'll let it go 🤣

But yes I'm your case just grab the teacher at pick us and do a "just to let you know, X's name is spelt with a y, it's an i on all his books, he didn't want to tell you and cause any bother but..."

The reading log od just tipex out and correct

Obviously raise it but I'd check with the office too - it may not be the teacher's fault. She'll have received a to register and if it's wrong on everything, it's likely to wrong on there.

"Dear teacher,

My son's name is spelt Jaydenne, not Jaden, or Jaydon, or Jaydan, or Jay-don, or Jay-den or Jay-dan,. I particularly liked to spell it differently than everyone else and find it annoying that you cannot spell it correctly!"

I feel for teachers with the multitude of spellings they face. Obviously @Jorvik1978 your child's name is merely Sam and the teacher is unable to spell.

Dear Namechanged,

I received your note about your son's name but find its tone accusatory and insulting so I have ignored it.

Yours,

Teacher.

As PP have said, it won't be the teacher's fault. She would have been given a class list of names from the office.

Even if you were unkind enough to have an unconventional or stupid way to spell your child's name, just point it out and ask if it can be spelt correctly.

Your son may not feel confident enough to question teachers and other school staff.

Not something that I think happens very often in a school environment, but continually misspelling names in a workplace can be a form of victimisation or discrimination.

Thanks for your post, Clarich Birminghamham.

I was going for Nottinghamham

Just have a chat with the teacher. Your son needs to learn to correct people himself but for now I guess he just had to learn how to spell his name!

Names like Mohamed have a few variations and if all the Mohamed's spell it a different way then I would understand not remembering.
My very female name is spelt similar to the boys version apart from one letter - think Simon/Simone Louis / Louise - and I cannot believe the amount of people who get this super common name wrong.

So, people not being able to spell your name is odd but Mohamad is understandable?!

No, it's never OK. Because name spelling is very easy to check. If I am spelling Stephen I will ask if it's Stephen or Steven. It's not hard to do the same for Mohamad.

I was referring to the OP' who says that her child's name is not a traditional English name ( her words) - so that might a little be more understandable.
