Seriously considering Noom as I want to loose a couple of stone but can't decide if it's worth the money.
Is it worth the money? Did it work for you?

It’s another low calorie diet pretending not to be a diet.

NotTheSlugandLettuce · 07/09/2023 18:47

I wouldn't bother

Supercoolmoon · 07/09/2023 18:49

I started obsessing about food after using it, as you have to log every single calorie you eat. Not healthy to do that.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 07/09/2023 18:49

I found it far too much faff tbh, may be I wasn't in the "right headspace" 🤷🏼‍♀️ Goes on about changing your thinking and then has you focussing on counting calories anyway. My thoughts changed not one iota.

EstherGreenwood19 · 07/09/2023 18:50

Two of my friends use it, both have lost quite a lot of weight (one about seven stone and the other about two stone). They stuck to it religiously.

Timeforabiscuit · 07/09/2023 18:52

I got a lot out of it from the programme, it took alot of time and focus learning new good habits, but it did help with my mindset and thinking about why i was eating. I got within 2 kgs of my target weight, then "life" happened.

I have put weight back on, but I haven't gone back to my heaviest.

VampireApples · 07/09/2023 18:52

I thought it was crap. A lot of advice you can look up on Google, it's all free really. Their database for logging food is awful, I found I had to add everything manually as I went along because nothing came up when I was searching it. Lots of American measures such as cups which aren't relevant in the UK. WW is loads better in my honest opinion :)

outofcuriosity · 07/09/2023 18:57

Does it give you food suggestions or meal plans or is it just to log calories and weight?

I used it last year when I actually did a diet for the first time, just losing a stone. I did free trial, then cancelled it and just stuck with using the calorie counter but you can use things like My Fitness Pal for that. I didn't find it very obsession-forming, but then I have a fairly healthy body image and I don't punish myself; I only weighed myself every week or two because I didn't think more frequently would help.

Some of the tips it gave were quite helpful, but I didn't need the 'cheerleading' it gives you as I have a fairly healthy relationship with food, I've just been putting weight on with middle age; I do know people with pasts of disordered eating who found it a good solution because it focuses on the positives.

Most of the weight's come back after a year, so I'm going to do it again as I'd rather have a little to lose at a time rather than a lot. I found the calorie restriction a bit of a downer for days out and the like, but fairly manageable otherwise - it also helped that I combined it with going back to the gym for the first time after COVID, so have an exercise plan too.

Nevermind31 · 07/09/2023 19:32

Didn’t work for me.

SunnySomer · 07/09/2023 19:37

It annoyed me - too much time on the phone reading motivational articles and quizzes, plus the food logging was less good than MFP.
now they keep emailing with offers to encourage me to rejoin

Me too it was a load of reading babble nonsense and stupid quizzes and sod all actual help. It was expensive too so I gave up.

Phineyj · 07/09/2023 20:21

I thought it was good and it worked for me. The psychobabble is certainly annoyingly written but is research based and backed by behavioural science. I think it could be really useful for someone who overeats for psychological reasons.

I found the database easy enough to use. I found a cup the size of an American cup so I could visualise the quantities. But it remembers foods and quantities you eat regularly.

I lost 10kg the first time and repeated it 3 years later - only lost 3kg this time but it was over the school summer holidays, which as a teacher, I'm happy with!

The focus is on what types of food you are eating rather than amounts. I've got much better at figuring out proteins and wholegrain stuff I actually like to eat.

I am not in their pay!!

Snugmummy · 07/09/2023 20:23

I thought about subscribing to noom after being bombarded with it on social media , but then decided to try the app nutracheck - I lost 2 stone on that and go back to it frequently- it’s calorie counting but I find that is really the only thing that works for me. To log everything I eat makes me think about if I really want it or I’m just eating for the sake of it. it’s only a couple of pounds a month and you get great recipe ideas , including Bbc good food recipes which I love. There is a chat group also if that’s your thing. Actually 5 other members of my extended family have also lost a significant amount of weight on nutracheck too. I say I go back frequently because I am a typical yo-yo dieter and never keep the weight off for longer than 6 months ( but I try!)
