The music when you're on hold to gov.uk for a diy divorce

the music is just the most depressing thing ever. Every time I speak to someone I'm in tears and the music makes it a jillion times worse.

The nice man I had to speak to today said /is there anything else/ and i said /i know it's nothing to do with you but the music [etc etc]/ and he said that if he'd had £1 for every time someone said the music is massively depressing then he'd be living on a beach earning 20% (as they say)

i'm just airing my rant. but if a ton of other people also hate the music - would it be a massive thing for gov.uk to pick up the tunes a bit?

i'm not expecting hi ho silver lining or ooops upside my head, but something less sad would be terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrific.

Years ago, I was in the queue to sign on at the dole office and 'Money For Nothing' was played, followed by 'Take It Easy' by The Eagles.
Perhaps the most inappropriate song of all though was when I was in the waiting room at the Marie Stopes clinic in Leeds. In their defence, they had the radio on so it wasn't a deliberate selection but 'Bye Bye Baby' by The Bay City Rollers wasn't really the best choice.

There are several from Kelly Clarkson that would fit the bill! Breakaway, Since U Been Gone, Already Gone…

One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
Two can be as bad as one, its the loneliest number since the number one
No is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes is the saddest experience you'll ever know
'Cause one is the loneliest number that you'll ever know
One is the loneliest number even worst then two
Yeah
Its just no good anymore since you went away
Now I spend my time just making up rhymes of yesterday
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
Since you went away
Since you went away
(One is the loneliest number since you've gone away)
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
Since you've gone away
It's just no good anymore since you went away
Now I spend my time just making up rhymes of yesterday
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
Since you went away
Since you went away

Back in 2011 the job centre had this awful screechy flute music that was completely unsuitable for phone speakers. I think it was something by Vivaldi. Every time the flute hit a high note it would cause the phone speaker to crackle in your ear in the most disconcerting way. Actually, I think they still had the same hold music last time I signed on in 2019 too 🥴

You mean Tammy! Tammy Wynette.

The probate registry is no better but at least they've changed the ultra miserable woman's auto message now.

Aviva used to have a sort of gregorian chant cum trance music which was brilliant. I had wireless headphones at the time and used to dance round the office. Never minded holding for them 😁

I remember calling the British Gas emergency helpline years ago, and being told by an automated voice that "your call is important to us", immediately followed by "It Ain't Necessarily So". I suspect choosing the piped music for phone queues is a minor subversive art form.

I used to work in a hospital and 'the drugs don't work' came on. Unbelievable!

I remember being on the phone to Lloyds, when they had ripped me off over PPI and the music playing was brass in pocket!
