Non scratchy uniform

Would it be too much in this day and age for uniform manufacturers to make non scratchy uniform ?! My dd is autistic so feels it more anyway but surely no kid wants to feel uncomfortable. I'm a firm believer that uniform js outdated anyway and something more casual would be better for all. Just a thought on this first day back to school.

The jumper, the shirt, the skirt, the material is so stiff.

Do you have to buy from a specific supplier? If not try the supermarkets.

lollipoprainbow · 04/09/2023 07:07

It's secondary so has to be brought from a certain supplier.

M&s have an accessible range with no tags, tight waistbands or protruding seams.
We use them for other reasons like ease of independent dressing for physical disabilities but their softness always impressed me

QuillBill · 04/09/2023 07:14

Is it a kilt type skirt? Mine are as soft as anything now they've been washed over and over. Put it in every wash you are doing.

Get cotton shirts. Or the ones from M&S that are made for just this purpose.

I think this is a nice idea in principle but in reality it's not going to happen. Joggers and sweatshirts like in prison would be practical. Although my dd is going to sixty from and she just said over the weekend that she was going to miss her blazer as that's where she kept everything.

lollipoprainbow · 04/09/2023 07:27

@LittleBrenda that's what I meant joggers and hoodie in house colours would be practical and cheaper! But yes my dd is disappointed she won't have a blazer! She would never have coped with that as well!

YANBU. My son goes to a special needs school and uniform rules are relaxed - any white top and any black bottoms. So he wears a white cotton tshirt and black joggers. He got dressed this morning and said how comfy he was!

DS7 has sensory issues. I finally found trousers he can tolerate so I've bought some in every size up to 12-13 because the thought of them stopping making them and me having to find an alternative or force him into ones he doesn't like was hideous!

I'm just very grateful that his school (run of the mill state primary) are very sensible and flexible as to what they will let the kids wear.

Typically it's synthetic, both the shirts and the trousers.

Even the primary school polos, which are cotton, are pique polos, which are quite a rough material.
