Have you had to provide a birth certificate / let employer know DOB (nhs mat pay question)

I've got 3 weeks of AL to use up before EDD and if I don't use it I'll lose it. Can't carry over more than a week (37.5 hr) as it's over the statutory provision of 5.6 weeks (210 hours) by quite some way.
I'd rather carry it over personally but seeing as I can't I'm just wondering if anyone working in the nhs has been asked to produce a birth certificate/ let employer know DOB?
If so I'll use it earlier (which will muck up my clinical work so isn't ideal!) so I don't lose it in case mat leave has to start early..

You either say my mat leave will commence on x date or its the day baby is born. If you are signed off early it wl start then.

I can't belive the maternity AL in the NHS is out of sync with rest of the employers for holidays. That's awful. I had assumed it would be discrimination to not allow a pregnant then mat leave woman her AL that she is entitled to.

I got to carry it all over.

Sorry posted too soon. No I didn't need to give my employer a bith cert although from what you write about the NHS mat leave AL loss then maybe they want one

I didnt have to - but while I did give birth before my mat leave officially started I was on annual leave already so wasn't not in work when expected so I doubt anyone thought about it (I'd have argued the toss - it was the Friday before my maternity leave started - and my labour didn't start until after my shift would have finished

I took 1 day a week from about 32 weeks, then annual leave from 37/38 weeks until the Sunday before my due date (and had him on the Friday before)

I think what the issue you are facing though is you do have time to take your annual leave before maternity leave starts, you are choosing not too, which is why you can't carry it over (if you were going on maternity leave in April you physically can't take it so you can carry over) - and you still accrue it while off - so if you don't take this years leave off before you go off, you end up with 2 years worth of leave to take between returning from mat leave and the end of March. - If you are, for example going off in November this year and taking a full year - if you carry over all this years leave you come back and have to take 16 weeks off before April, whereas what they want is you only to have the 8 weeks to take between November and March
