Am I a germ obsessed freak for thinking this?

To think that it is gross to keep your travel changing mat that has touched the public baby changing surface in your changing bag to contaminate everything else!?

I think you are overreacting.

Cookerhood · 02/09/2023 22:00

Yup

Hatesf1 · 02/09/2023 22:01

Yes get a grip

scrivette · 02/09/2023 22:02

I didn't like it either and had a pouch to put it in. I am not the most house proud/cleanest person either but I didn't like the idea so understand where you are coming from.

Sigmama · 02/09/2023 22:03

Contaminate with what

Ratfinkstinkypink · 02/09/2023 22:03

I don't think that is a rational thought.

Brainfogmcfogface · 02/09/2023 22:03

Yes.

UnderDuvet · 02/09/2023 22:04

It’s gross, good on you, keep your own standards - you don’t need to poll for opinion on this one.

Tourmalines · 02/09/2023 22:05

You think your baby will never be exposed to germs ? You’re overreacting.

Bringbackniles · 02/09/2023 22:15

I would use mine and keep it separate. And then wash it before next use.
I usually changed in the car when I could though.

My baby was born during the pandemic and I lost a lot of perspective about germs etc. I look back now and think, I really did that?!

DrManhattan · 02/09/2023 22:16

Quick blast with Detol spray.

OliveWah · 02/09/2023 22:18

I've voted YABU, but if it really does bother you (and I do understand why it might), why not wrap the changing mat in a fresh muslin cloth before you go out each time, then have the cloth between the changing mat and the communal public surfaces, then fold the muslin with the "dirty" side on the inside and stick it straight in the wash when you get home? My youngest DD has OCD, so I am used to coming up with various 'workarounds' to help her to cope with things more easily.

ShoesEverywhere · 02/09/2023 22:20

I never had a changing mat so often ended up changing my babies on a cubicle floor. They're all still alive and rarely get sick.

So I think YABU but I think everyone else here will think I'm being unreasonable Blush

Dunnoburt · 02/09/2023 22:21

As someone with severe emetophobia yanbu....I had all the same thoughts...however.....nipper never caught anything from her changing mat... to my knowledge anyway xx just DO YOU.....if it puts your mind at rest who cares what anyone else thinks xxx

OliveWah · 02/09/2023 22:21

@DrManhattan's post has reminded me - my DD carries a small bottle of antibacterial hand sanitiser, which might be handy for you. She uses Carex Antibacterial Hand and Surface Sanitiser Spray which comes in a little 100ml spray - it's about £3 in Boots.

KimberleyClark · 02/09/2023 22:23

Iwould not worry. Our bodies have amazing immune systems designed to fight germs and it’s good to keep them occupied.

Carpetmoth · 02/09/2023 22:30

I had a plastic bag that I kept mine in to keep it wawy from other things. I have also used a muslin and then put that in the wash when home. Tbh I tended to wipe the changing stations and ones in my town centre had the rolls of paper to cover the fixed mat. The one I carried was used at people's houses mostly.

Cabella · 02/09/2023 22:32

I'm more worried about supermarket basket and trolley handles, they always feel sticky, and there's not always sanitiser and blue roll to clean them with, even with the new strain of coronovirus about.

lionet · 02/09/2023 22:39

I carry blue roll with me and line the changing table with that, then put the changing mat down so it's a soft surface, then line with blue roll again so the mat stays clean.

Frabbits · 02/09/2023 22:41

Immune systems are a thing.

That’s grim. Would you want to roll around in other people’s piss?

Omg don’t get me started on trolley handles! I walk to the trolley with an anti-bac wipe in hand and clean thoroughly before touching 😂

You have more bacterial cells in you than human cells. We bacteria hate being contaminated by touching humans.

You know that your phone is covered in way more nasties than just about anything else you touch, right?
