Does bread make everyone bloat?

Even slightly?

I had a thread discussing low B12, ferritin and my doc thinking I should go easy on gluten as I have one of three genes associated with coeliac despite blood test negative for antibodies. Very reluctant to do an endoscopy as I have type 1 diabetes and massively scared of it.

Anyway I have done I think 5 days of no gluten (and sadly, none of my non-alcoholic beers that I like) and something strange has happened to my abdomen. It has sort of shrunk inwards? Is this indicative that the gluten (in the daily slice of sourdough and whatever beers I was having religiously for 6 weeks before my coeliac test) was aggravating something?

I never would have said I was really that bloated apart from mid menstrual cycle but there is a distinct flattening. Not as great as it sounds mind you as whatever slight constant bloat was there was sort of keeping things taut and now my stomach is overall flatter but also softer and mess taut Confused

Does this chime with anyone else? Immediate loss of some bloating you weren't particularly aware of?

LESS taut, that should say...

This happened to a relative when he cut out gluten on the advice of a doctor. He was later diagnosed as coeliac. Try being gluten free for longer and see if you feel better healthwise.

Yes, I’m sensitive to gluten and get very bloated on it. Tested negative for coeliac. Tested positive for Helicobacter pylori and got treated for it but doctor never confirmed if it got rid of it.

I also get very low iron levels. They improve with ferrous fumurate but go back to low levels when i stop the pills.

I’m low carbing and have much better digestion on it, as it cuts out gluten.

Equally it could just be that your calories have reduced if you had a lot of bread or gluten based products in your diet.

The coeliacs I know have (happily) put weight on after removing gluten from their diet.

Interesting @WomblingTree86 I hope your relative is doing well. Yes I'm going to avoid gluten for a few weeks and see how I fare.

@M4J4 I moderately low carb, how low do you go? Glad you found something that makes you feel better digestion wise. Did you have stomach issues with the h pylori too?

@Hufflepods yes I think that happens to a lot of people with coeliac but not all, especially if you don't have a lot of damage racked up yet if you are early on in the disease.

Also I have still been eating ice cream and chocolate and have upped my cheese consumption in consolation of no nice bread, so doubt I've dropped calories.

I don't feel I have lost weight exactly, it's more a fairly subtle change to the shape of the abdomen area.
