Medicinal cannabis

My vulnerable neurodiverse and mentally unwell teen over 18 thinks she can go to a private clinic for medicinal cannabis after helpful advice from a friend. Surely this can’t be right. We’re incredibly worried as she has history of getting fixated and addicted to things and not listening to advice. Surely there should be protection in place for people like her.

My dh has a prescription. They don't just dole them out, your gp needs to provide them with a summary of care (think that's what it's called) then the clinics gp has to decide on whether it's safe/suitable for that individual.

She’s on an anti psychotic, anti depressants, waiting for adhd meds, has autism, adhd, dyspraxia, has made 4 attempts on her life and is being treated for an ED. Surely she wouldn’t get the go ahead for this.😱 I’m worried clinics just want the cash so won’t give a shit. Is there anything we can do if she’s over 18?

Just following on from what @ToxicPositivity said you also have to have an appointment with the private clinic doctor every 3 months after an initial consultation. They don't just hand it over and leave you to it. It's all very strictly controlled. They will also take all her meds into account, hence having contact with her GP.

I don’t think they’ll give her it because she’s had psychosis

Your concern for your teen's well-being is completely understandable, especially considering her vulnerability.

Yes it's possible. Have a Google of curaleaf, they are private prescriber and their website explains how it would work

Exploring medical cannabis as a treatment option should ideally involve guidance from healthcare professionals who can provide tailored advice and support. It's essential to ensure that any decisions made prioritize her safety and mental health above all else.

You can indeed. It's really expensive though. And not as good as a lot of the black market stuff.
It's been found to be really beneficial to some people. Wouldn't you rather she went through a doctor than a dealer? I can't afford a doctor so essentially you get criminalised for being poor.

Sadly it is possible from a private provider.

Have worked in an area where this was popular and some of the assessments appeared to be minimal. The private clinics varied a lot.

However she would need to find the money as well as a willing provider.
