Go ahead with car sale? Can I get deposit back

So I saw a car I loved last week online. I did enquire into about 4 similar ones at the same time. Anyway lovely car, sun roof, GT, 26,000 miles on the clock, 2018. 1 prev owner

I have been going back and forth with the garage and finally put a 1K deposit down. This is for part exchange and they'll offer me 9,600 for my car. They sent me a contract and with reg plates price for my car deposit, price outstanding etc! It's only today that on looking at the invoice again that I realised it's for a different car !

I'd somehow managed to get enquiries crossed and this car isn't even at the same garage. The car I've put a deposit down on is virtually the same.. 2018, 2 prev owners but has done more miles at 34,000 but the same price! I am gutted as was really pleased with the mileage. I have spoken to the garage of the car I thought I was purchasing from and they can only offer me £6,500 part exchange! I've been crying about it all day ! I'm spending a lot of money and was really set on having nice low mileage aswell.

Aibu ?! Was due to pick up tomorrow (it's over 300 miles from home).

Do I bite the bullet and just go ahead with this car?!
Or try and get my 1K back?! Don't know if that's even possible 🙄 basically it's all my doing

There is another garage another 100 miles again who said they'd offer me £10,500 for my car but they specialise in that car so worry they will knock money off for the odd scratch etc anyway.

Low miles can cause issues, a car needs to be run. The extra miles are neither here nor there and you're getting a better trade in.
YABU. Nothing between them IMO and the additional cash trade makes it sweeter.

solvendie · 01/09/2023 21:39

Given you’re getting £9600 part exchange for your car rather than £6500 I think you’ve got the better deal. 8k additional mileage is nothing on a 2018 car. The mileage is still very low and you’ve saved yourself £3k. Sounds good to me!

CatsOnTheChair · 01/09/2023 21:40

They are both really low milage.
And there is an extra 3k on offer as part ex on the higher milage car. I'd say you've probably got the equal car and better deal.

KomodoDodo · 01/09/2023 21:47

That mileage difference is minimal, and as pp said too low a milage isnt good. I’d say you're got a good deal and an extra 3k. Go for it.

Conkerqueen · 01/09/2023 21:49

An Extra 8 thousand miles is nothing!

TulipVictory · 01/09/2023 22:10

Maybe I'm just making too much of the mileage 🤔 I had on all my auto trader searches cars below 30k mainly because I'm spending a lot of money so wanted it to be perfect

Its a five year old car. At 34000 it's done less than 7000 miles per year, which is absolutely nothing. It might help to think of it that way, too.

I'd be more wary that the other car hasn't been driven enough, tbh.

The extra trade in value is more than enough to offset the difference in mileage. Go get your car!

Justlikeme234 · 12/09/2023 12:40

I am an ex car saleswoman. They will give you your money back if you ask and explain. Don’t worry, car dealers are desperate and definitely don’t want to upset anyone. They’ll bend over backwards

Throwncrumbs · 12/09/2023 12:43

Have you actually seen these cars other than online? I think you can get your money back if that’s the case

Justlikeme234 · 12/09/2023 15:56

I’m an ex sales executive for Jaguar Land Rover. They are giving you more money for your part exchange on a certain car because it is likely they are wanting to get rid of it. A lot of dealer groups don’t let you discount used cars so they over-allow on the part exchange price to balance it out. It’s very shady they are giving you different prices for PX without explaining this to you, is it a main dealer group?

A different in 25,000 miles is A LOT. That’s 2.5 years worth of average mileage and will reflect in the value of your car in the future, perhaps more than £3k.
you need to look at the bottom line price they are asking from you. Are you genuinely getting £3k off or have they just given you more for your PX to make the deal look sweeter?
you’re welcome to send me the order form and I will check it over for you, PM me and I’ll send you my email.

It's a 8k difference, not 25k!

Justlikeme234 · 12/09/2023 16:12

Ah yeah! Thought the mileage was 9k 😂 8k isn’t too bad but you just have to make sure they’re actually giving you the discount when it comes down to bottom line price

It's 8000 different, not 25,000.

34k rather than 26k

Legale · 12/09/2023 16:18

Low mileage isn't always a good thing. An extremely low mileage on an older car would put me off. It doesn't mean the car is in better condition or will last longer either, I wouldn't worry about it.

AdobeWanKenobi · 12/09/2023 16:20

I imagine, 11 days later, OP has sorted this tbh.

Fightyouforthatpie · 12/09/2023 16:22

The comparison of trade in prices is meaningless without the cost of the car - as a PP pointed out, the "better" trade-in offer may just be priced into the price of the car.
1 more owner and another 8k wouldn't bother me but I run old bangers anyway.

OMG ZOMBIE alert 😂

Hardly a zombie, but no dealer is holding a car for eleven days whilst the OP decides what to do now are they?
