Work do

There is a work do next week, which I decided not to attend (tbh I could have rearranged a few things easily to allow me to attend if I wanted to).

Feel a bit bad about not attending and it might be a bit embarrassing because most of my team aren't attending.

However I have attended quite a few leaving dos and other smaller team/department events out of hours over the last year.

I get why companies want to arrange events. But AIBU to think there should be maybe just one or two a year that you almost have to attend, and then drop all the other events?

(I can see I might sound a bit misarable for being upset that someone organises a leaving do or other celebration but where I work these things add up!!)

Tbh I think it is a bit miserable/anti social to suggest no one else at work should do anything because you don’t want to. Twice a year really isn’t very much at all.

You absolutely don’t have to go if you don’t want to, just say you have plans. It’s usually the same crowd who attend these things and that’s fine, some people have other priorities like families etc.
