To find Vinted returns policy awful!

I love how easy Vintwd is to use but their returns policy is absolutely awful for when things go wrong.

For example, today I received a handbag which is described as very good, used once. However it was posted in just a plastic bag so has arrived mishapen..clearly well used with black and brown marks on it. The side with the marks wasn't photographed. Raised as an issue and apparently I have to foot the postage back. Messaged seller directly too.and suggested a partial refund but she's not interested.

Spoke to customer service online. Also not interested as this is their process

Surely this is completely unfair?

Yes it's awful. I collected a Frozen umbrella rather than a gorgeous gilet from an inpost locker. Vinted have now been investigating for 3 weeks. They ask for photos and give 2 days for my reply or my money will be released. Now told to post the umbrella at my expense but the seller sent a gilet not an umbrella. It's madness. I've also had to pay several times in the past to return items fit for the bin.

Vinted also irritates me that the buyer only pays postage, not packaging.

if I’ve had to go to the shop to to buy envelopes plus petrol to the nearest drop off point 5miles away, I’m basically losing money on the £1 top that I’ve sold.

I’ve given up selling and i out it all on freecycle instead

Glad I'm not alone in this. I previously received a stained and damaged item tgst had been described as new with tags. Seller was good about it and refunded me but I was still out of pocket for the postage.

Yes that’s why I don’t sell anything less than £10

I agree with this. I recently bought something that was sent stained, damaged and unwashed and when I gave her negative feedback she gave me negative feedback in return for being "rude" 🙄

If you got it sent to a locker then it's likely that you've ended up with someone else's order rather than the seller sending a completely different thing. It happens loads if you take a look on the Vinted forum - there's even a lost and found thread. Once I'd read that I've started putting in a note all of my packages with my user name and the sellers username, plus what they've ordered from me in the hope that if something does go missing then the person who gets it instead will contact either me or the intended recipient.... Or alternatively you could have just been sent an umbrella instead of the gilet!!

A package that I sent this week arrived ripped. One of the items fell out so the buyer messaged me asking if I forgot to put it in, but it's just lost sadly. Fortunately I also take photos of the package before sending so she could see that the package was "fine" when I sent it (which is something else that I've started doing after reading too many horror stories) and I offered to buy her a replacement on Amazon (as I have her address and it was for her baby's holiday next week) but she said it was ok and has put that everything is fine so I've got my money.

I've sold around 100 items now and I find it really convenient but I also have two lockers within 5 mins walk of my house, so even if I "only" sell for a few pounds it's worth the effort as I'm only just getting rid of everything my 4.5 year old boy has worn since birth GrinBlush

I bought a BNWT Zara coat last week - listed as size M in title and in the description. Arrived and is an XS. I messaged seller and she said it's oversized so it comes up 'like a medium size' 🙄 My only option is to return and be out of pocket or re-sell. It's so annoying as a buyer when the seller hasn't be honest.....Vinted had the evidence so a decision should be made on facts not a generic 1 rule fits all.

brainstories568 · 01/09/2023 18:27

That said, I don't understand why they frame their cut as a "buyer protection fee" when it's not protection for anyone. If it were then they'd not charge you as a buyer to return items to sellers which are significantly different to what was advertised, given you've already paid your "protection" fee.

Heatherbell1978 · 01/09/2023 18:31

On the flip side, I sold a worn once Joules bikini for £6 last year, total bargain and the buyer messaged me saying it was in awful condition and covered in paint...huh? I asked her to send me photos but she never did and continued to message me. So I said fine I'll refund you but she had to return it first. She never did. If people could demand refunds at a whim the whole thing would become a waste of time for sellers. I never buy anything more than £10 and rarely price anything over that either.

Un7breakable · 01/09/2023 18:32

I think you have to go in to it with the mindset that it's not a shop. If something doesn't have good/detailed photos I don't buy. If I get things that aren't as expected i sell them on with an honest description or suck it up.

If something has been damaged in transit make sure you put that. Most things aren't packed correctly so it's one of the only ways to get a refund

I only buy things with a photo of the label. And if there isn't one, I ask for it. I mainly buy kids clothes and so many are listed at the wrong size even with a label photo!

creamteaandfishcakes · 01/09/2023 18:36

Yep same here. Half of the item I bought was missing. Missed the return period so just had to pay for her mistake and if I had have returned would have paid for the delivery. Really annoying. First purchase and won’t be using it again

KajsaKavat · 01/09/2023 18:38

Bunted is awful full stop!!!!

Exactly I think some expectations are a little bit high on this one. It’s essentially a more user friendly version of eBay.

Also wondered what the buyer protection fee covered. Just shocked at how awful.their process is ans thankful I hadn't bought anything too pricy.
