To send digital wedding invites?

I am getting married next year- having a smallish wedding with around 50 day guests and additional in the evening. We have 3 DC so have cut down costs from the original larger scale wedding we had planned during covid. I wonder if anyone has received/ sent digital wedding invites instead of the traditional paper copies and if so, what their thoughts were? It just seems like a lot of additional hassle/ expense ordering up paper ones and having to post them all out! Would this be acceptable? The digital ones available on Etsy seem quite nice.

I love them especially if there's a tick menu for dietary requirments

MannekenP · 31/08/2023 21:13

I did. Cost me £0, just did the free ones that came with our free wedding website.
Nobody had any issues. Besides it's more money to spend on their drinks anyway.
And SO easy to organise, I could track RSVP's, put guests into groups, etc.

These days most paper invites direct you to a website to actually RSVP so the paper's pointless anyway!

Glendaruel · 31/08/2023 21:15

We used With Joy website for our invites. It was free and gave everyone the details. Sadly covid got in way. I got a pack of paper invites for the one or two relatives not in internet. I've just been to my cousins wedding and they also did it electronically.

Dinojump · 31/08/2023 21:17

I think it's a lovely idea.

Just don't invite them via a Facebook group. That's what a 'friend' did with me; I didn't go.

CuriousW · 31/08/2023 21:18

I also used With Joy- it was a bit of a faff with some of the set up, but great to see who had responded etc and we also took people's addresses so we could send out our Thank you cards.

My BiL and SiL used with joy.

my MiL was horrified 🤦‍♀️😂

LunaLoveFood · 31/08/2023 21:21

We received a e-invite and it was so much easier to reply and to state our dietary requirements. Wish this kind of thing existed when I got married years ago.

Lantyslee · 31/08/2023 21:22

I've been to two weddings this year, both organised via WhatsApp. One of them out all their information on hitched.co.uk - both were fine I wasn't bothered about having a paper invite. It was useful to be able to look the information up on my phone.

Poblano · 31/08/2023 21:25

We recently received a wedding invite by email. It contained a link to a website with the wedding details, venue details, places to stay locally, gift list and an RSVP page.

I wish this had been a thing when we got married 20+ years ago.

So much easier as a guest, and it must be great as the couple as I presume all the RSVPs are stored in a database that you can easily check.

Onceuponaheartache · 31/08/2023 21:28

Am so glad this thread is running as I was going to ask the same question in a few weeks!

We have bought some stunning digital ones from etsy and planned to post but thinking from an environmental position sending them via email is far better.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 31/08/2023 21:29

Paperless post is great for this

comedycentral · 31/08/2023 21:35

I made digital ones for my sister for free and she sent them via WhatsApp. It was so easy for her and her guests RSVP'd and completed their menu choices so quickly. I think it's a great idea.

houseregret5 · 31/08/2023 21:37

I'm feeling so relieved now!!

Same! It's a great site.

Thanks for all your replies- feeling reassured it's the best way forward for us!

E-invites for those you think will be happy with them

Paper ones for those who aren't so much online. You will need to pay postage, but needn't buy special wedding stationery. You could handwrite on a plain card, or knock up something on a computer and stick that on a plain card (you can get plain ones from proper stationers and craft shops)

SpringIntoChaos · 31/08/2023 23:00

E invites are absolutely the way forward OP. So much easier all round and better for the environment. For any elderly relatives who may not be digitally inclined, you could design your own on Canva and print them off on nice card.

sherridan · 31/08/2023 23:03

We did it, through a website called Greenvelope. They looked lovely and the software lets you track and collate responses for food choices etc.

StripyHorse · 31/08/2023 23:13

My brother and SIL sent them on paperlesspost.com

We did have a paper wedding invite initially but it was for late spring 2020 so that didn't happen.

They sent email invites second time round. He said it was handy having all the responses collated.

If you do send paper invites, I would probably still enable rsvp via a website or at the very least a Microsoft or Google form.

YakChewCrumbs · 31/08/2023 23:16

We are going to one this weekend that was via With Joy. It's really nice - lots of photos of the couple, and easy for us.

UsingChangeofName · 31/08/2023 23:31

I'd be very happy. Makes a lot of sense to me.
However, you know your guests.

Do you have any guests who are not on=line, or rarely use their computer ?
It might be you should send those people a card or letter.

mdinbc · 31/08/2023 23:38

Our son and DIL sent a save-the-date card in the mail, with a link to their wedding web-site.

To be honest, there were some people that missed receiving the e-invite through the website, and a little confusion replying.
For the older crowd please make sure you have their current emails, and perhaps follow up if you don't hear from them.

TinySaltLick · 31/08/2023 23:52

It's more sustainable, paper is a thing of the past - consider it a good deed for the environment

Maddy70 · 31/08/2023 23:53

Do it online with a tick list to rsvp and distribute requirements all in one

GilesRupert · 01/09/2023 00:02

We invited people via email or text. No tick boxes or anything. No one was offended.
