Price of a pack of twixes

Just in my local shop, having a nose about and was looking at the biscuits. £4.75 for a pack of 9 twixes?! Surely this is absolutely ridiculous beyond belief?

I am frequently shocked at the price of things in shops and now cross reference different supermarkets in the hope that what I want is on offer at one of them and I am time rich but cash poor.

Local Co Op sells Terry's chocolate oranges for £3.49. They are £1.50 in Sainsbury and £1 in Poundland!

BackToOklahoma · 31/08/2023 17:20

Well that's their choice then. They can have one Twix or three Kit Kats.

Not always a choice though for kids that have ‘safe foods’. Even a change of packaging can be hard to deal with never mind a whole different product.

I have literally just been to my local corner shop and got 3 double twixes (but maybe smaller size than the standard ones) for £1.25. So definitely some of it is where you shop but I agree with everyone else the price of absolutely everything at the supermarket is now ridiculous. I also bought 2 lightbulbs £1.99 each FFS, I remember not that long ago I could get them for about 18p each (obviously not LED but I hate the new LED bulbs anyway and for me they don’t seem to last any longer than the old ones anyway). For some reason I really really object to paying so much for a light bulb!

@BarbaraofSeville it's not that simple if you have a child with ASD or similar!

medianewbie · 31/08/2023 17:33

Co op food prices are insane. Yellow label stuff for the full price £ it cost just 3m ago. But it's my only shop within 8 miles [cry]

20 (Birds Eye) fishfingers for £6 in Tesco about two months ago…couldn’t believe it! I’m now a total convert to supermarket own brands 😁

Seriously though, food price inflation has been insane the last 18 months or so, and on top of fuel, gas and electricity prices going through the roof it’s having a horrible effect on people’s general standard of living as wages and income are nowhere near keeping pace with those at the lower end of the financial spectrum being hit the worse 😞

A pack of Aldi Jive biscuits (basically twix two finger bars, albeit a bit smaller), used to be 56p 18 months ago. Now £1.10.

RadioFoot · 31/08/2023 17:17

Oh actually I paid £1.10 for a brocoli yesterday £1.10 for one 'tree'. Crazy!

Edited

I've had to stop buying most fresh vegetables. It's about 80p for a mixed bag of broccoli and cauliflower in tesco.

Prices are very worrying on top of everything else. I have to shop online because of disability and tesco seem to have stopped selling many of their stockwell (cheap items) online so I don't have the choice to buy the cheapest often (they are available in store).

shellyleppard · 31/08/2023 19:45

Aldi do a really lovely one for £1.50......really rich tasting ❤️

SprinkleOfSunak · 31/08/2023 19:47

I did a weekly shop on Saturday, and it came to £125. I was completely shocked, and couldn’t stop analysing what we had bought. We used to spend £50-70 per week, but recently it’s been frequently around £90 per week.

In terms of protein, I bought a 1kg box of chicken thighs, 500g chicken mince, a packet of breaded ham, and a box of tofu. I bought a block of cheddar cheese, lots of vegetables and a small amount of fruit, a box of washing powder, a small packet of rice, a deodorant, and hardly anything else!

I didn’t buy any alcohol or treats such as biscuits or crisps. It’s totally outrageous.

On top of the £125, we have so far spent £25 on top up shopping.

If only it was possible to buy other biscuits or get them from other shops.

No-one has to pay that, except possibly the tiny percentage who only have access to one shop and for some reason can only possibly eat twixes.

Every shop in the land will have something similar on offer for £1.50. So buy those instead.

I think the point is some shops are taking the absolute mick. I think some retailers think customers are getting used to rising prices so will just accept ridiculous prices. Express and convenience stores are the worst. They were always more expensive but the difference has become shocking. I saw a pack of microwave rice for £2.85 in my local co op today.

Food prices are absolutely shocking. This was in my local SuperValu supermarket. Well local to my parents house and I was staying there looking after them, so it was the only shop I had. Obviously didn't buy the twixes though lol

Exactly this

You're paying for the convenience at shops like that, they charge high prices as they know if people really want them they'll pay it. They're £2.50 in sainsburys (not on any offer).
