To ask if ceserean is worse than bariatric surgery?

I have an appointment with my doctor to discuss referral for bariatric surgery.

I've had 2 sections and have dealt with the pain well, obviously while dealing with a newborn after it and was always confidently back on my feet the next day.

How does bariatric surgery compare? I would be aiming to have a sleeve.

Please don't say 'they're completely different surgeries' blah blah as I know that, I'm just wanting a pain/recovery comparison that id understand. Bonus points if you've had both and can tell me a bit about your experience!

I've had both OP. The c section recovery was worse for me physically, though not unbearable at all.

Bariatric surgery was harder mentally.

Don't regret either.

Yeah I've heard a lot that it's mentally taxing!

How did you do on it if you don't mind me asking? For me to be a healthy bmi I have to lose 9 stone and I've tried slimming world as soon as I so much look at something not on plan, i gain the weight back an have done that over 5 years with the 4 stone I lost

I had two CS and have refused bariatric surgery as I don’t think I’m mentally able to cope.

I know three people who’ve had the sleeve. They’re all still morbidly my obese and their relationship with food is no better. I worry I’d be that person.

All three has significant surgical complications too.

Hi OP, I haven't had a c section but had a sleeve. The first 48 hours were bad but fine after that. I had it in January and have lost 7 stone 10 so far - just under 2 stone to go. I'm now a size 12 down from a 24!

One procedure is open and the other is closed so there is one big difference already.

Changing eating habits is a big deal to people who have an emotional connection to food.

I think the comparisons are quite diverse and the best person to make those comparisons is you, once you have recovered from the surgery.

C-section is far worse.

my lovely daughter in law had the bariatric surgery (sleeve) end of March she has lost so much weight,is positivley blooming, she did lots of reaing up about it, where as a colleague friend of hers didn't and isn't doing as well, as said the mental aspect is important. She went private(not sure if that helps) both her and her friend are nurses. Good luck x

Join this group where you’ll find lots of people who’ve had both. They will be able to help you with the differences between a sleeve and a bypass. https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheFriendliestGastricSleeveBypassGroupUK

Funnily enough, my neighbour told me her friend had a sleeve and it ‘hasn’t worked’, which it won’t if your eating habits don’t change. It doesn’t stop you eating chocolate/crisps/takeaways, you just tend not to be able to eat as much all at once.

Absolutely brilliant. I've lost 8.5st, had my surgery in April 21.
