Posting here for traffic as I’m in the office today and struggling. 6+3 weeks pregnant and nausea arrived at 6 weeks on the dot. All smells are making me want to retch and I need to get through my job which is client-facing, so I can’t just die quietly into my desk. Any tips gratefully received.

Giving birth. Take care, OP!

Hufflepods · 29/08/2023 19:49

Prescribed medication.

Hufflepods · 29/08/2023 19:52

@RosemaryDill I was hospitalised with HG in both pregand would have cheerfully murdered the next person who told me to eat ginger biscuits or wear sea sickness bands.

Same, if I took any of these suggestions I would just be throwing up ginger flavoured things which sounds grim as fuck.
A pharmacist told me to try ginger sweets and cordial… only someone who has never thrown up 30 times a day would actually suggest that to someone who’s going through that.

Peppermint tea and ginger biscuits!

GettingStuffed · 29/08/2023 19:56

Ginger nuts and crumpets were the only things DD could eat

MotherofPearl · 29/08/2023 19:58

Totally agree @Hufflepods and @RosemaryDill.

I know people mean well but when I'd been hospitalised twice, and was taking daily Ondansetron, I felt enraged at the ginger biscuit brigade. I felt like saying "Oh yes, ginger biscuits! Why didn't I think of that? I've been prescribed drugs normally given to suppress the side effects of chemotherapy, but I'm sure I'd feel much better if I just swapped to ginger biscuits!" Hmm

Absolutely nothing! Only being sick helped me. I felt fine afterwards for 15 fantastic minutes……then the intense nausea crept back. You have my every sympathy x

Muststopeating · 29/08/2023 20:00

Hunger and tiredness make it a lot worse.

With my 2nd, after eights were the only thing that would make me feel better. Discovered that after a weird craving one morning which I embraced. (Will probably never eat another after eight again though and he's now nearly 5).

With my 1st, carbs. All the carbs. She was pretty much made of chip butties.

If you're really struggling to eat anything then beige food is your friend.

Hope it gets better, soon will be a distant memory (instead you'll be lying in bed at 7pm because the 3 monsters have ruined you).

15+ years of Mumsnet and you can't find help with morning sickness remedies?

Something is very wrong with this site!

Glovesandscarf · 29/08/2023 20:06

Get meds if you need them, but try the other things as well, because they might help. It doesn’t sound as if you’re in the realms of HG yet.
I definitely found being hungry made it worse, mostly treated it like a hangover with coke & white carbs, and ready salted crisps.
also sometimes eating before you get up in the morning can help, put a rich tea (or ginger biscuit!) by your bed, eat it before your head leaves the pillow & give it five minutes to settle. Worth a try.?

And sometimes it’s nice to feel as if there aid a little bit of sympathy coming your way from people who understand. If we were only allowed to post things that had never been posted before, let’s face it, the site would be pretty empty.

caringcarer · 29/08/2023 20:08

Lemonade and a ginger biscuit before even thinking of getting out of bed.

Lizzieee2727 · 29/08/2023 20:09

Salty crackers and ice pops!

Diamondsareforeverandever · 29/08/2023 20:21

Dry cream crackers helped a bit.

sugarsherbet · 29/08/2023 21:10

Lucozade nice and cold I found helped. I also ended up on anti sickness meds and they helped a lot! It’s worth speaking to the doctor if you can’t get it under control.

Wintermothering · 29/08/2023 21:44

Eat a snack before bed
my husband brought breakfast as soon as I woke up
Keeping sugar levels fairly stable helped and not letting myself get too hungry

Riggle · 29/08/2023 21:54

The nevasic app helped me. It does something via your inner ear to stop nausea - you just listen to it via headphones.

MargaretThursday · 29/08/2023 21:56

Giving birth. Sorry.
2 hours after birth, all was better each time.

Ginger burns on the way back up. I speak from experience.

Nomorelittlebabybum · 30/08/2023 06:20

I’ve been really ill with all 3 of mine, in hospital with the 1st 3x due to dehydration. Only thing that’s helped me (in moderation) is lucasade with the first then Diet Coke with the other 2. It just curbs the sickness a little.
I could pretty much only eat potatoes with all 3 - nothing with any flavour and banned all fragrances including deodorants and aftershave from the house.
for the 1st I was sick until the day I had him but for the other 2 it wasn’t as bad and by 6 months I could eat a lot more.
its miserable but you’ll forget about it once you have your lovely baby. Good luck 🤞

Creepyrosemary · 30/08/2023 06:22

I ate a banana in bed before trying to get up and sipped irdinary coca cola throughout the day. That eased the sickness but it didn't go away.

Creepyrosemary · 30/08/2023 06:22

*ordinary

CinderRosie · 30/08/2023 12:17

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I have downloaded that app @Riggle.
