They are so loud!
Where did all of these green parrots in London come from anyway?
There's so much in NW10 they are like pigeons

They are so loud! However, they are also very fast. Always amazes me when a flock flies by. Blink and you’ll miss it.

Rubyupbeat · 29/08/2023 10:15

They are in the forest by me, edge of east London /Essex also tons in north chingford, as they are on the fringes of epping forest. I really like how they have just integrated with all the other birds, they eat off our bird feeder too..

Rubyupbeat · 29/08/2023 10:17

@toptopnoddy
How silly, they are not hurting the other species. I am a (sad I know) birdwatcher and myself and fellow watchers haven't noticed and negativity with them.

AnchorWHAT · 29/08/2023 10:22

We have them in the SW now too, they roost in the hospital grounds near me and fly noisily over our garden every morning. I fear that soon they will discover our bird feeders and then we are doomed!

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 29/08/2023 10:23

Be thankful you don't leave in Kirkby Stephen......they've had scarlet macaws roaming round for.years, they make a right racket 🤣🤣🤣

cocksstrideintheevening · 29/08/2023 10:24

I'm in SE London and we had them for years but they all fucked off during COVID havent seen any for ages. Seem to have been replaced by magpies and the parrots were a lot nicer!

I live in Berkshire. The parekeets are slowly spreading westward along the M4 but have so far failed to establish a colony where I live (are in neighbouring towns.) I wonder if this is because we have a large population of Red Kites that are known to sometimes prey on smaller birds, the colour of the parakeets making them easy to spot?

Red kites rat dead things, they only take smaller birds in very very rare circumstances, like breeding season.
we have huge numbers of kites and parakeets living together.
my guess is there’s something else at play.
fewer people feeding birds?? maybe

ManateeFair · 29/08/2023 10:27

I'm in north Manchester and regularly get parakeets in my garden.

I like them! They're very entertaining birds to watch and they're so bright and beautiful. But yes, they do make a hell of a racket sometimes.

Some people believe they're detrimental to native birds but there's really no evidence of that, so I'm happy to welcome them really. Even with earplugs...

Trinity65 · 29/08/2023 10:29

Lots of them in the areas of Downham and Grove Park

They are very pretty and very noisy when they are in my neighbours Tree.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/08/2023 10:30

We have herring gulls making a racket here. We are about as far from the sea as you can get in the UK.

We also have geese flying over honking but only hear them once a day.

Knackeredmommy · 29/08/2023 10:34

They are bloody loud!! We have loads of them around, based in West London. Have also noticed Kites have increased since Covid.

PinkiOcelot · 29/08/2023 10:40

They’re Indian Ringnecks. They are loud for little birds. Try living with them. I’ve got 2.

shitt · 29/08/2023 06:03

Not sure about parrots but the seagulls make me feel like I’m near a beach (I’m not)

Same here, I'm in semi rural North Herts. You'd think it was Brighton Pier first thing 🙄

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/08/2023 10:43

There are budgies and parakeets where I live in Herts but not enough to be a nuisance. There is a large colony in Regents Park and we saw many after walking from London Zoo recently. Hyde Park too.

Redburnett · 29/08/2023 10:49

Magpies are very noisy too. Early on Saturday morning it seemed that every magpie in the area was on a roof nearby creating a huge cacophony of noise. I have seen so many magpies at once. Later I found a sparrowhawk with a carcass in my garden under a bush - the feathers looked black and white, so one less magpie now.

Fucking parrots in the morning omg
BCCoach · 29/08/2023 10:57

They have been trying to spread into our bit of Surrey but never last long as the sparrowhawks make very short work of them. Occasionally find an explosion of green feathers in the woods where one has met it’s doom.

SabrinaThwaite · 29/08/2023 12:55

The Times mapped their spread in 2019x

userxx · 29/08/2023 13:07

Loads up here in South Manchester, you hear them before you see them. I was one parked next to a tree with hundreds of them in, the noise was something else.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 29/08/2023 13:14

I’ve seen a few in my north eastern town, loads in Amsterdam and Manchester.
ive seen the Macaws in Kirby too, take your breath away when they fly over.

I don't live in London but we have lots of Budgies too, yes they are really loud even when you're not fucking them in the morning!

Very good, Sunset! That made me laugh :)

I love them. They come into my garden sometimes and I love watching them fly overhead.

Tiddlywinks63 · 29/08/2023 13:52

I see crows ganging up on the red kites round near me.

Crows gang up on the buzzards here 😵‍💫
