Big vase
big chunk broken

would superglue work? Then gold paint over the crack? Not sure what to put over the other broken bit (that bit smashed into little bits).

I won’t lie, it would be nice to salvage something from the disaster that’s been my life lately. I keep very tall fairy lights in here. Nothing heavy.

posting in AIBU as it seems quiet. Thank you.

Superglue would work and painting over would also work. But you may need to research what type of paint would be best. Oil based/acrylics??
for the missing piece- I’m guessing it’s the large chip in the rim, would a ribbon tied and glued into place work?

or you could be completely radical and do decoupage over the entire vase and seal it with some varnish. No one would see any chips missing. Making something completely new and unique. A phoenix rising from the ashes symbolic of new beginnings…

Thanks guys
so superglue will do the job? I was wondering if epoxy resin might be better?

re paint, I have gold acrylic.

the missing chunk - I don't know how to decoupage but maybe some gold ribbon is just the ticket. Or go over it with duct tape and paint that gold?

kintsugi is exactly what I was thinking! Also, phoenix - yes, it is very symbolic.

I think putting some time into repairing this will help my brain too.

thank you.

I would use Araldite to glue it. Then use gold leaf over the top of the glue.

I think googling might be your friend here. Have a look at some arts and crafts that other people have done when up cycling vases, see what you like and it will give you some ideas about what you might like to do, and what materials they’ve used and you have accessible to you.
I like the simple kintsugi effect.

not sure if duct tape is paintable- again you might have to research your paint type. But washi tape could work and comes in lots of different patterns and colours. - the range is good for arts and crafts stuff in a budget.
Whatever you do decide to do - have fun!

You can get gold glue kits for pottery on amazon I think, that would probably give a better result than painting over the glue.

I'd superglue the chunk back on then paint over the glue and around the chip in the rim with gold or silver nail polish or that slightly 3d outlining paint for glass painting.

Wrap it loosely in Xmas fabric and use it for a festive decoration
