Surely penalty fares should be brought in for this or perhaps bus/train drivers should be given greater enforcement powers. I find it absolutely breathtaking that anyone thinks this is acceptable behaviour.

I see teenagers do it all the time and while I don't think its acceptable its the kind of thing I expect teenagers to do so I usually turn a blind eye. But in the past two days I've had two separate grown adults, both women, both comfortably into their 30s, one with children, doing it on two different London buses. One was watching Loose Women (or equivalent). The other (the one with the kids) was watching a load of different musical clips in (I think) Turkish so loudly that when my DD and I went to the top deck to get away from it we could still hear it as clearly as if we were in the same room. There must have been 30 people on the bus and every single person was subjected to this at unbelievably high volume. I eventually asked her to turn it down and she said something rude to me and carried on.

Just.... how have people been brought up that they think this is behaviour that everyone else should put up with?

Midlifecrisis, does the same apply to a car driving by with loud music? It's over in a second, unlike sharing public transport or a restaurant with these self obsessed knobs

I just find it bizarre thinking about a circumstance in which you would grow up thinking this was OK. I had it drummed into me from before I was able to speak that you don't make noise in a public place if it is likely to be irritating or intrusive for other people. My parents (both now deceased) would turn in their graves if they thought I ever did this. My 12 year old DD has known this since she was 5 or 6. Yet presumably people are modelling this behaviour to their kids (as the woman on the bus with the two children was doing) so they must grow up thinking they have a God-given right to do it.

I can sort of see how a teenager who was trying to push buttons might do it to be rebellious by blasting out offensive music but in what universe would a grown adult with their own children think it would not piss others off?

Sorry I'm really on one now about this. Just think its about as antisocial as its possible to get and astonishing that people don't recognise it.

This seems to be getting more prevalent with grown adults.
I thinks it's the entitled generation growing up. Nobody has ever told them no.

@Sigmama I’m not crazy about cars doing it but it is over in a second unless it’s a traffic jam and cars don’t tend to come down riverside footpaths - I can think of plenty of other antisocial things that drivers do but that’s not yet one of them

I was on the train the other day sat next to someone who was having a very loud teams call with colleagues with no headphones.
It was clearly about a very sensitive topic too and I'm pretty sure the whole carriage could hear everything that was being discussed.
If I'd known where she worked, I would have definitely considered complaining to the company.

I have been known to use my “teacher voice” to say “excuse me, your headphones haven’t connected and we can all hear your music”. Make out like it’s a technical error you are kindly pointing out.

Yes op! The ultimate in selfishness. What is wrong with people

That's a good idea. Wish I'd tried that with the lady listening to Turkish TikTok.
