NHS banding

I'm currently top of my band and left my previous trust 5 months ago. I'm due to start in a new trust. Will I be placed top of my band as continued service or does 5 months count as a break and I start at thr bottom?

I think you are supposed to start at the same place. As they have to
Protect your pay. But I may be wrong.

If you’ve not been employed by the NHS since you left your post 5months ago it’ll be a break in service and you’ll be back at the bottom I think.

5 months would be a break in service, but you may be able to negotiate starting at the top.

I was still employed by old trust when job offer accepted and I interviewed. I left after I got job offer as I did agency work for new trust. I haven't been told I would have to start at bottom of band as initial agreement when job offered I was still under continued employment.

The offer letter should state the salary including which pay point. If its the lower point then just get in touch for a conversation. It's likely they'll start you top of band.

Letter just states salary reference. This is in the nhs handbook:

From the NHS Employers Terms and Conditions Document:
"Reckonable service
12.1 An employee’s continuous previous service with any NHS employer counts as reckonable service in respect of NHS agreements on redundancy, maternity, sick pay and annual leave.

12.2 Employers have discretion to take into account any period or periods of employment with employers outside the NHS, where these are judged to be relevant to NHS employment.

12.3 When employees who have been transferred out of NHS employment to a non-NHS provider return to NHS employment, their continuous service with a new non-NHS employer providing NHS funded services, will be counted as reckonable in respect of NHS agreements on sick pay, annual leave and incremental credit.

Re-appointment of previous NHS employees.
12.4 On returning to NHS employment, a previous period or periods of NHS service will be counted towards the employee’s entitlement to annual leave.

12.5 On returning to NHS employment, a previous period or periods of NHS service will be counted towards the employee’s entitlement to sickness absence, where there has been a break or breaks in service of 12 months or less."

I started working for new trust day after my old trust contract ended but as an agency staff. Agreed I interview top of 5 for permanent job no mention of any change.
